Location
San Juan Capistrano, CA
Resorts Owned
Formerly: Marriott, ILX, Westin, Diamond, Worldmark. Timeshare free as of 12/24.
From earlier thread: August 17th Paid $5.44 in San Juan Capistrano.

Price Sept 29th was $6.67 at the same Shell station! For the first time that I ever remember we left a gas station to find another. We had just seen $6.37 at a Shell on our way to this station which is in the same parking lot as our intended destination Trader Joe’s, and so was more convenient. Ended up paying $6.20 at yet another Shell — actually the closest gas station to our home. Interesting to us that we’d stopped going to this last station a year ago simply because it was usually 10 cents higher than others and we don’t generally shop at the expensive grocery store (Gelson’s) in that plaza.

I feel your pain in California. Our daughter, who lives in Sunnyvale, is visiting. She almost cried when she saw our prices here, which we think are high. Right now they are at $3.64 and have been dropping a few cents each day.

I feel your pain! I picked up our month's petrol today- getting $.40/gal off at Kroger. 22 gallons at $3.65 Just under $80. Sure glad we don't have a commute. I should park my pickup, and charge up the ol' e-bike.

I can't say enough positive about our Plug-in Hybrid Honda. It handles virtually all of our day-to-day driving and if we call on it to take a road-trip, unlimited range is available at every gas station.

And in my part of Maryland, I was pleased that this week gas dropped to around $3.39 from about $3.59 in the last 2 weeks.

I quite agree, I have a Kia Niro PHEV and only need to put gas in it about once a month, depending on if I have any long trips or not.

We just returned from a vacation in Southern California, were shell shocked by the prices!!! Paid $5.59 there, we're now back to the more reasonable, (although still outrageous), price of $3.59 in Massachusetts.

I just saw $6.80 at Cheveron for Supreme and Credit Card charge.

The politicians said the gas wouldn't be this expensive. I'm guessing the great tax revenue grab and the winter formula are to blame.

The air is cleaner than the 1980's in LA by like 1,000% and I might be missing zeroes.

Gas prices this evening in North Suffolk, VA was $3.33 per gal for reg gallon.

The CA Gas Prices are making my son hate CA. If he sees others state prices $3.00 less a gallon, he will lose it!

California has always had higher gas prices than the rest of the nation. If you are headed into California, you always fill up at the last stop before you cross the border into the state
If you are traveling out, you arrive at the first gas station across the border on fumes
It has been like this for as long as I can remember (arrived 1971)
Every couple of years there is an announcement out of Sacramento about a task force being formed to figure out why this is
The bottom line is the lack of competition among the refiners
California requires a specific blend of gasoline (as set by an alphabet soup group of agencies) There are only several refineries that refine to those blends
We can not import gas from other countries, we can not import gas from other states since nobody has the blend
We are a captive market, we pay captive market monopoly prices
It is what it is
I know one individual that bought a gas station in San Diego in the early 80's (just one) He has a very nice lifestyle

It's $3.56 at the gas station near us. Not bad, but we always get $1.00 off at King Soopers (Kroger) because I buy gift cards for Disney, airlines, restaurants, Amazon, etc., each and every month. We pull both cars up to the pump at once and get our 35 gallons, $35 off. It works.

I'm feeling better after seeing some of these California prices. I just filled up and the price went up a nickel to $5.95 a gallon.

$3.14 reg/$3.78 premium 93oct in Raleigh area today. But, it is what it is. It’s like MF’s. We can complain but there’s not much we can really do about it.

In LA, Costco has regular for $5.10 and premium for $6.10. I’ve seen several other stations at $7 for premium. Earlier this week I was told Costco had it for ~$1.50 less than a local station.

My friends with EVs are laughing at the rest of us.

Paid @ $8 per gallon last month in France if my math is correct at 2 euro/liter!

Last year in the UK I found I could only buy E85. If your car can handle that find a local station and use it. It’s less expensive, though you also will get less mileage per gallon. For decades I’ve also done a simple comparison of gas prices between the US and Europe, but now I know I need to account for this other factor. I know someone with an Audi who switched to E85, on advice of his mechanic, and he’s paying much less than I am and pleased even though he has to fill up more frequently. In other words, if you also bought E85 in France then a direct price comparison isn’t accurate.

LADWP Power is $0.40/kwh if you're at the second level. Not sure anyone is "saving money" living in LA.

Just sayin' also when it was 100+ our electric cars fans would run even when fully charged to "keep the batteries cool."

Costco vs Gas Station pricing gives you an idea of the retail markup at a gas station
I certainly wish I had a gas station in California
Many were shut down in the late 80's because of ground contamination from leaking tanks
The cost of remediation was considered to be to high
It was easier to shut the station down

Yea, around here E85 is 60 cents a gallon less than regular.

You should have a dedicated EV meter which powers at lower rates.

Also, where are you getting that info about electrical costs? It’s way off. I just checked my latest bill, and tier 2 residential pricing is $0.26639/kWh. I also participate in the LADWP shared solar project which offers $0.1845/kWh for 100 kWh so that lowers my cost slightly. My total per kWh cost after all fees and surcharges is $0.26357/kWh, and that’s after I contribute to the optional Green LA Program.

Paid $3.16 today here in eastern North Carolina, but oil prices are climbing and i'll gas soon will be, too.

Gas at most stations in Cincinnati area had been 3.69 for a few weeks and dropped to 3.59 in past couple of days. I noticed oil prices going up substantially this week so I expect another .30 increase early next week. It always goes up .30 at a time. I buy most of my gas at Costco, which is .20-.30 less and they typically increase the price a day later than the others. Natural gas and electricity rates went up substantially last month. It is scary because gas prices usually start going down at this time of year due to the end of the more expensive summer blend requirements.

The air is cleaner than the 1980's in LA by like 1,000% and I might be missing zezeroes.
The last line says it all. Air quality is night and day different between now and my childhood. I grew up in Yucaipa at the base of the mountains. In the afternoon the smog would roll in and obscure everything including the mountains. My lungs hurt when I breathed in and there were many days when we were kept inside due to smog. Remember "smog alerts"? The 70s were wild. I am unhappy about the prices for sure, but thankful that smog no longer dictates my activity level.
