Hi,

I have a question for a friend that just purchased an every other year points membership at this resort. He paid approximately $14,000. In addition to the Points membership, he was given 5 years free membership and 1,337 extra points every other year. Although I have not been active on TUG in awhile but I am pretty sure that he should cancel. I have a couple of questions. First, am I correct that he should cancel immediately? Second, can he purchase this on the resale market? Third, any idea of the trading power of the points at this resort? Thanks.

Rescind now, worry about other questions later!

Follow instructions explicitly.

Do not communicate with sales operation!

Any doubts, read applicable threads in this forum!

Garza Blanca is not an RCI points resort. It trades on the RCI weeks side. For a studio in July, it gets your 21 TPU's and maintenance fees are approx. $470 for that week.

I assume the 5 year membership you are referring to is RCI membership?

As for resale market, there isn't much of right now since it is fairly new resort, a few years. Maybe in a few years they will start popping up.

Rescind now it there are ANY questions at all. The resort isn't going anywhere and neither are any deals - there will always be special deals.

Off the top of my head I'd say $14k seems like an awful lot of money for any timeshare, let alone a Mexican one for only Every Other Year. (I say that as an owner of a Mx timeshare myself).

Even the best timeshares in the world sell for pennies on the dollar on the resale market. If after your friend does all his research and decides that this is the perfect resort and value for him for a 50 year commitment, then I'd still recommend that he just rent the units for awhile until resale becomes an option. And to see how the resort holds it's value and appeal over time. It's hard to judge a new resort and where it's going.
