There are some pretty bad reviews for The Gardens at West Maui. The latest one it from Jan 2013. Has anyone been there since then or know anything about it? I am looking for a week with dates that are available there but the reviews scare me.
Thanks

Gardens at West Maui would be at/near the bottom of our list...

Have you stayed there? We have stayed there as owners, and we rented our week for years, then we sold it for what we paid. I have met many owners at the pool and barbecues, and they love it there. There are great reasons to love it as an owner. It's cheaper than the cheapest hotel on Maui, but it's far nicer. The grounds are as nice as any resort on Maui. The tropical plants are abundant. Really a beautiful little resort. If only the guy next door would move.

Gardens is a clean resort with decent units, especially the 1 bedrooms. The problem with staying as an exchanger is the rooster noise next door to the first building. It's not like Shearwater with the one sad rooster who wakes everyone up early. It's obnoxious noise.

There are 4 buildings, and the best building/ location to get is the building furthest from the front building. It's wise to call reservations at Sands of Kahana and add a request for building 3 or building 4.

SOK is where Consolidated/ Soleil management is based on the island, and I believe Lani still determines where everyone stays.

Gardens is right across from some pretty high-rent hotels. I mean right across the street, and it is a very narrow street.

If Gardens was my only choice for a specific date, I would absolutely take it over renting a hotel. It's clean, clean, clean, and the bedroom has a king bed, and there are 2 full, identical bathrooms in the 1 bedroom. There is also washer/dryer and a great kitchen in the 1 bedrooms. You have to realize it's on the same plane with Hono Koa (we love that place) or Kahana Villas. It's a nice clean place and better than an average hotel because of the amenities.

I own at GWM was there at the end of March.

Cindy is pretty accurate with the description, it's a comfortable low key residential apartment style t/s, well cared for and full of ammenities. The golf course is adjacent the resort and you have a nice view of it from Buildings 2 & 3. The service road for the grounds people is also on that side so you'll hear that traffic in the morning along there. It's less than a 5 minute walk, across the street and up the road to Kapalua Bay, a favorite of wedding photos and myself for swimming, snorkling and scuba. I've encountered turtles here every trip and it's just pretty, pretty, pretty. http://bit.ly/1wBTK0D

The roosters are really the biggest problem for the resort and it takes a day or two before they blend into the background. As noted exchangers traditionally get building one which is adjacent to a whole lot of them.

If you are looking for a full service, fancy place with a great ocean view out your window, then you can forget Gardens of West Maui. If you want a low key, residential feel that's clean & well cared for and a nice launching pad in a nice neighborhood then GWM is terrific.

We've stayed several times here and really appreciate it. Lani has since moved on from Gardens & the management company.

Except that it isn't on the water like Hono Koa or across the street from the beach like Kahana Villas.

No. We passed it up for Kahana Beach Club, Sands Of Kahana, Kahana Villas, and Maui Hill.

Not saying it is a bad place .... we were just fortunate to get something with a better location.

IT IS across the street from Napili Bay, a gorgeous beach, which is why the hotels across the street rent for $300 per night. It's a shorter walk than Kahana Villas or Kahana Falls to a beautiful beach.

The bad reviews are from people who were kept awake by the rooster noise, I can almost guarantee it. Too bad Gardens doesn't have any recourse against the guy next door with his dozen roosters. It's obnoxiously loud. But Gardens could put in a better sound barrier than the tall fence. I don't know what, but the windows are not great, so that would be a good start for building 1.

The bedding is not dirty. That sounds ridiculous. Even if you had that problem, a simple call to the management company would take care of it.

People complain about anything and everything. Bedding is changed between guests, so how could the bedding be dirty? I just wish Consolidated would go with the duvet covers and scarves at the foot of the bed.

Consolidated/ Soleil manages Sands, too, so it's not like the complaints can be blamed on a management issue because it's the very same bunch.
