Hello,
Has anyone visited this resort recently? I have a 2/6/4 currently on hold. The TUG reviews are kinda sparse and the most recent is from last year. Other websites don't speak as favorably as the TUG ratings would indicate. Any updated information would be greatly appreciated.

JLB was there in Jan, he said good things. He should be on shortly to comment.

Here I am, shortly.

I just sent an email review to someone recently. Perhaps it was you. Their main concern is whether they could get a 2-bedroom with a marina view.

The answer is yes, there are 2 bedroom units on the marina side, comprised of a one bedroom and its lockout. We had a one bedroom in January and for some reason the couple in the lockout did not care to let us see it.

All 1-bedrooms are marina view.

Two bedroom units are marina view, Front Street (the worst location) and what I call partial gulf/beachette/pool view.

It is older but you can't beat the location. Everything was updated in our unit and very spiffy.

Take your own teflon skillet. :D

If you need more email me and I'll dig up the one I sent recently.

Thanks, JLB

Actually, I had searched and found the thread from an owner explaining about unit / view assignment. I was more concerned with whether or not the units had been recently updated, were they clean, and the friendliness of the staff. I've checked the photos of the resort's own website, and I sure hope all that brown and tan isn't still there:eek:

My .$.02 worth - we were there two years ago. The units were rather dated, we thought. Staff was polite but not overly friendly. We had a horrid unit with a few of the back of the shed for the pool equipment.

But the location was fabulous. We would go back there for that single fact alone since in Key West, if you're in your unit a lot, you're not really enjoying Key West, IMHO.

Bev

I totally agree with what Bev said. Mine was the last review, after our stay in Dec. The unit could have been cleaner, the bedding updated, the furniture updated, but the location was perfect, the view of the marina hard to beat. We would go again...but I'd bring my own pillows...
Connie

May have had the same unit as Bev. But as she and Grest say the location is the greatest. Would love to go back. Al

I guess we got the one updated unit. :D

The higher you are the better the view.

There is a rooftop deck on top of the far west buidling on the marina side. there was another rooftop deck, maybe on our building (E), but it was closed.

Yes, it is an older resort, but we liked it.

The marina is a week's entertainment in itself. Our best lunch was when we went over to the marina grocery store and had them steam some fresh Key West Pinks. We added a salad of our own, some baquette bread, a beverage, and sat on our lanai and watched the goings-on. There is a lot of sitting and watching in Key West.

The Marriotts are spiffier and there are plenty of kiosks around where you can book a tour.

I stayed in June and was very happy with my 2 bedroom pool/beautiful sunset gulf view room. Great location for visiting Key West. This is a hard place to exchange to with most rooms being used by owners or rented. I got a deal on a cheap rental and would go back.

The best thing about the Galleon is LOCATION. It's not the fanciest resort in the keys, but it is exactly where you want to be in Key West (except for the next few days). I would love to get a trade into the Galleon, not to be in a fancy resort, just to avoid having to drive around and find a place to park near all the action. Key West is very busy, with narrow streets and limitted parking. If you can get a room near Mallory Square - TAKE IT!

We have owned at the Galleon for at least 10 years. The units were updated about 2 years ago. We went to the Galleon on a trade and I bought a 2 bedroom unit 6 months later because I wanted to go there every year and it is hard to get into.

We have a 2 bedroom which isn't a lock out. Our friends own a 2 bedroom over looking the marina and theirs isn't a lockout either. We have the penthouse in the A building overlooking the pool and the ocean. the view is incredible. We have always found the staff very friendly.

It is a wonderful location. We have looked at all the other timeshares on key west and find The Galleon's view and location and condos superior to the rest.

We leave this Saturday for a week. The start of Lobster diving season! We are watching "Chris" right now. Sure hope it doesn't head that way. If you have any other questions I would be happy to answer them. Hope you go and love it! mhodgson@shawus.com

It's a small world.

When we were there in January I noticed the pickup next to us in the parking garage had Iowa plates. A guy was getting stuff out of it so I started up a conversation, "Where you from in Iowa?"

Turns out we had friends in common, college buddies from Moo U.

We went all that ways and it was like I was back home.

He said he pulls his pickup into the parking garage at the Galleon the first of January each year, and then gets back in it five weeks later and heads back home. I believe they had bicycles, which you sorta have to watch out for them and mopeds while you are driving.

We went to the Galleon get it out of our system, because we have heard about it for years, and one day there it was on-line, Week 1.

I'm not sure we got it out of our system. We could probably handle another week there. :D

We stayed there one year ago this week. I was not impressed with the resort. We had a very small unit ( hotel unit). We knew this going in that is not my problem. Our problem was the toilet would not flush and the unit above us leaked and caused a leak in our ceiling tha caused plaster to fall. They never fixed it all week. (I moped it up daily) I asked for a move, they requested 3000.00 for the upgrade. No way. Also got our beach towels stolen, no ice maker in the room had to buy ice all week(3.00 a bag). Staff is very snotty.

But that said, the Galleon does have LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! I would stay again. Matter of fact I made an offer on a unit there today. ( Can't piss me off very easy)

It was hot hot hot this time last year, but the town is a lot of fun for adults.

I want to go back!

We didn't have any of that or hear a discouraging word from anyone.

Being a long-time TUGger, my ear is trained to hear discouraging words! ;)

We are also cats lovers, which is a plus on the marina side.

You know, I have never mentioned the tarpons that fed in the slips just beneath our lanai when the fishing charters got back in and cleaned their catch each day.

We are at the Galleon this week. It is very hot & humid. If we come back it will definitely be when it is cooler. Our 1 bedroom unit is on the marina side. Clean & big enough for 2.

IMO the Galleon is way overrated. Would I stay there? Yes, in a heartbeat beause of its location. Would I buy there at anywhere near today's prices? Never!!
