I just got a match on my almost 2-year old ongoing search to The Galleon Resort & Marina in Key West over Christmas/New Years break this year (Dec 24-31). 2bed/2bath for only 4,800 HGVC points in this high demand week. I'm thrilled and thinking this might be a rare thing. It's ocean front, right in the heart of town, 2 blocks to Duval St and we're planning to trailer our boat down form NJ and keep it at the onsite marina. It's a gold crown and the units seem to rent for a high price...there's nothing available for my week on any rental site so I'm thinking I got lucky.
Here's the thing I find unusual.... For the life of this search I have chosen specific resort IDs, ranging from east coast ski resorts to Florida beaches since I was very picky about quality and my dates were only xmas. I have modified it many times as we have changed our minds on where to go. Didn't get any matches at all until last week when I matched to a New Hampshire ski resort, but released it because we decided florida was our top choice. So, I then opened up the search to include geograhic areas (specifically the keys) in addition to resort ID's. Well, 2 days after that I got a match to the Galleon. I had the Galleon listed as a resort ID for a YEAR, but as soon as I opened it up to an area, it matched. Could this really be just a coincidence, or could it be more effective to use an area instead of ID's?? Anybody experienced this?
FYI.... I also had good luck last Xmas week and got a gold crown Jordan Grand ski in/out in Maine. My strategy is to always have an ongoing search going and just keep modifying it as your needs change. I guess you get to the top of the list the older it gets.
