@Cindy M , to book other dates at SCBC, does one need to pay the 199 exchange fee to GPX for the home resort?
Also, as an owner, do you still pay 'resort fees' for exchanged dates at the home property (if one wants to stay in September rather than the deeded January week, for example)?
How about other Grand Pacific resort properties in SoCal or others? TY!

I do have to pay the exchange fee to trade back into SCBC. I did exchange for a July week at SCBC but do not remember if I was charged the resort fees. I tried calling GPX to clarify if owners are charged resort fees but they are closed for the night. I can check on this tomorrow. I have owned the unit for almost 20 years and have only stayed there once. The rest of the time I have exchanged through GPX. My favorite exchange in SoCal has probably been Villa L'Auberge in Del Mar, but there are many nice GPX SoCal resorts. One of my favorite GPX resorts is Red Wolf Lodge in the ski village of Palisades Tahoe. I have traded into Maui, Sedona and St. Maarten through GPX.

Thx for the excellent info @Cindy M !
Villa L'Auberge in Del Mar does not show any availability for exchanges currently, fwiw, but good to know!
Does GPX charge you resort fees for exchange bookings at other Grand Pacific (GP resorts) like GPP (Grand Pacific Palisades or Seapointe)? These resort fees seem significant, $35/day, which can make an exchange cost >$400/week from $199...
When do they reserve your deeded week for you (? 12 mo out)?
Is that when you tell them to not reserve the deeded week (& instead use that for exchanges)?
Do they open the SCBC resort calendar to other SCBC owners for exchanges any sooner than when it goes live on GPXvacations.com (any home priority) or not?
Is there any summer availability at that time?
Also, if able to, maybe look at your final checkout receipt or history on GPX of your home stay with them at SCBC (as sometimes reps can give misleading info), to clarify if you get charged resort fees, for doing an exchange booking at SCBC for fall (as no summer availability currently).
With your deposited week, can you see if they allow you to reserve SCBC for fall without resort fees? (maybe similar test for other GPX resorts, as above), without wasting your week? (If unable to, no worries).
TY!

Great questions I just clarified them with GPX exchange. My week is a fixed week and can be deposited with GPX and used 2 years in advance. There are no special discounts for owners when trading back into resort. You have to pay the fees posted on GPX website. You can setup searches and will be notified when there is a match but they do not hold it for you. It is first come first served. What I have seen is a large dump of summer SoCal weeks exactly one year before the travel date. For example, be ready to reserve a summer 2026 SoCal week in summer 2025. There are often rental deals for$399 or more throughout the year. GPX states you can call them with general questions at 866.325.6295.

@Cindy M Great! Good to know re summer availability!
1. Re 'You have to pay the fees posted on GPX website': The ask was specifically re resort fees (if charged to owners, if booking into home resort): say booking a September week at SCBC (or hopefully a summer 2026 week in summer 2025). I realize the $199 exchange fee but an extra (resort fee) $35/day x 7 days= total >$400 (on top of annual MF of 1500) adds up... My understanding (from asking others at TUG) is they do not charge the resort fees to owners in their home resorts at GP resorts but who knows! (Hope they do not, as many seemed to indicate).
2. Were you able to look at your checkout email/history on their website etc, if they charged you the resort fee, when you stayed at your home resort (unless you stayed your home week, when they should not have charged you)
3. If you book a summer 2026 week in summer 2025 & things change, can you change the reservation upto 60 days before check-in (or other time frame) without a fee or do you have to cancel & rebook with the $199 fee all over again?
4. Do you have an ocean-view room 1 BR (or interior)? Do they usually honor that on exchanges or random room?
TY!

You would have to pay the daily resort fee if exchanging back into the resort. I agree that fees add up. You can purchase insurance when booking for a reasonable fee that allows fir cancelation. I own an interior unit. When I exchanged back into a summer week at SCBC I was placed in an interior unit.

I see two weeks in December 2025 (the week before Christmas and Cheristms week) for a 1 bedroom. GPX might also be able to get something else, but YMMV.

If you can getthe Bonus weeks to work for you there are some super deals (well that's how I feel). The do a descent job of stating Resort Fees. I was able to sweet talk my way out of a resort fee with an Amex Credit Card, and save about $400 in resort fees, but again I was totally ready to pay them. YMMV.

They likely added inventory today, being December 1st (as wasn't showing earlier)... TY!

It always changes. I bet they can even will get better weeks if you wanted.

I do wonder about if you get II or just RCI.

Also, SFX might be able to get you something interesting, but the process of calling in....

Bummer re resort fee even at home resort (had read otherwise on many other posts by other grand pacific owners). @RX8 or other grand pacific owners?
@Cindy M , were you able to see in your records if they charged you the resort fee when you stayed at your home resort in the summer?
(When I called them yesterday, I spoke to a Dennis at their owners svc line who indicated they do NOT charge resort fee, if exchanging into home resort but reps can give misleading info, hence the ask).
TY!

I own at Palisades and have never paid a resort fee there regardless of when I’ve stayed.

SCBC is in II and RCI. The GPX rep I spoke to said I would be charged resort fees for exchanging back into SCBC. That is why I encourage people to do their own homework and reach out to SCBC and GPX. Policies and fees change so it is best to get current information.

External exchange using RCI or II would certainly entail a resort fee.
Was thinking about using their internal GPX, but you are right, one may still entail a resort fee.

I web chatted with GPX and they stated an owner would be subject to resort fees even if one exchanged back into their home resort. He said it is charged by the resort, not GPX. I believe that is the standard answer but I would think the resort would waive these fees for a true owner. I don’t have any experience trying it (never exchanged) but I am pretty persuasive. :)

Back to the OP’s offer. I’ve never stayed at SCBC but it looks like a great place to stay a short walk to the beach. I have been very pleased with Grand Pacific Resorts as a management company as I feel we get our money’s worth.
