Explore beautiful New England! Free 65,000 points every other year with InnSeason Resorts Vacation Club through RCI.

A vacation club is not a deeded week at a resort but a system of points that can be used at a family of resorts. What type of room you get depends on the week you want and at what resort.
For example, you can get a 1 bedroom on week 15 at Pollard Brook, NH (near Loon Mtn) or a 2 bedroom on week 11 at Harborwalk in Cape Cod, MA. Point grids are available on the website https://www.innseason.com/vacation-club

These can be used for a getaway or to add on to points already owned, plus access to all the owner benefits such as bonus weeks and destination resorts outside of the InnSeason resorts.

Maintenance fees are paid up to date and nothing is owed. Prepay $64/mo or you can choose to pay current fees annually. Points are for odd years but unused points are rolled over.

I will pay any closing/exit fees, but may need help with how to do that.

Please let me know if any other information will be helpful!

Reaaaallly need to unload this vacation club.
[insert sorrowful violin music]
We bought into this years ago when we were young and starry eyed about our income and ability to travel. But when we had the money, we didn't have the time. When we had the time, we didn't have the money. Thousands of dollars in contract and maintenance fees later, we have never used it. And now, the financial strain of the maintenance fees are too much to ignore in hopes of a "maybe someday" vacation. So I will happily pay the cost of closing fees once to free up the monthly income.
I realize 65k points is pretty small potatoes these days, especially when someone can get hundreds of thousands of points for free, so any advice to make this more attractive would be appreciated.
Free dozen compliments to the taker?

Best of luck finding a new owner. Unfortunately, you may have a difficult time finding a taker here based on the details of this club. Have you tried listing on eBay? Someone around here will have more info than I do on Innseason, but with it being a club, just stopping payments might be your best option.

The official response was to the effect of "Try to get rid of it on your own. Prove to us you've made a good faith effort and we'll put your case in front of our board of directors who will only excuse a couple contracts a year."

So in theory I can go back to them and say "I tried" but I don't trust a board who is already hesitant to let go of contracts will approve mine any time soon.

I have seen other poeple recommending I just stop payments, is this really legal? Couldn't they take me to court or kill my credit?

well thats disappointing.

defaulting on maintenance fees does come with the likely risk of being turned over to a collections agency to hound you with email/calls/letters....but you are not likely to be taken to court no. the default may or may not show up on your credit, its a dice roll even for that. (far more likely if you are talking about defaulting on a loan balance).

if they refuse to take it back, and you cant even give it away....your only other option is to stop paying. That will end your ownership guaranteed.

You can request a financial hardship review in which you need to submit all kinds of proof or you can beg for mercy after you try to sell it on your own (they recommended coming here) AND complete their owner's course. If they give you leave you have to pay them $400 in transfer fees. Which...I'm not sure what you are transferring when there is no deed, just a concept of points.
So I guess we'll be stopping payments then.

Update on trying to exit this if anyone is interested: I originally was going to just stop payments and carry on with life but I just couldn't shake the feeling it would come back to bite me in the butt later. So my options were to apply for release which would mean I still would have to pay for 2 years of fees plus $400 in transfer fees, or apply for their finiancial hardship release, which meant filling out more forms including a credit application and providing a letter to the Board explaining myself. I chose the hardship option because we can't afford 2 years worth of fees in one go and the credit app and asset statements should have proved that quite adequately.
This was back in May. It is now Sept and I just received an email saying they would allow my release, but I still had to pay 2 years worth of fees (but I don't have to pay the $400 transfer fee).
I asked why I had to pay the fees when I applied for the financial hardship application specifically because I couldn't pay the fees.
They said they had a duty to all the other owners to make up for the loss in fees, and it is very rare to be excused from this.
But I am allowed to make a credit card payment and pay THAT off as slowly as I wish (the one card we have is maxed out).
We'll scrape the barrel and get it done but this whole business is infuriating.

Am glad you were able to work out a way to surrender the ownership back, but am disappointed to hear of yet another deedback program charging hefty fees to allow owners to give unwanted timeshares back.

that seems to be the wave of the future unfortunately :(
