We found this 4 ft. gopher snake in our yard today. It's dead, but still warm and limber. It has a large wound around the middle, so we think a hawk was flying with it in its talons and dropped/lost it in our yard. We have a lot of hawks around all the time. Now it's hanging over the back fence - pigeons hate snakes, so it scares them away. We have a kooky neighbor who feeds the pigeons, so we have too many around! I expect a hawk or raven to carry it off before the end of the day.

Update: The hawks, ravens, blue jays and a magpie have been very interested in the snake today, but they also seem to be afraid of it, because they won't touch it. But I suspect it will be gone in the morning, because we have a resident owl, and coyotes, too

Ewww to the snake, and hope it's gone in the morning, but you do have a gorgeous view from your back yard!

Update: This morning, we had a murder of crows eating the snake on our fence, which was gross, so my husband threw it down the hillside behind our house - this is natural undeveloped area. RIP 🐍
