Hi guys.
Would really appreciate some advice on Marriott properties in Florida.
We are owners at Marbella beach resort in Spain but travel to Florida regularly as we are DVC owners too.
We would like to exchange [edited/deleted to remove the appearance of an ad in the forum]
Ideally we would like a resort that's more for adults. We would like to perhaps fly into Miami and stay for a week down that end of Florida and then fly back to the UK from Orlando so stay for a week there.
Can anyone recommend a resort that would be suitable for 2 40somethings with no children. We love the Orlando area and any comments about the different resorts would be most welcome.
Also I have seen varying reports on Marriott Beachplace Towers in Fort Lauderdale and Villas at Doral Miami. Can anyone tell me about these and which would be preferable.

Many thanks

In Miami stay at Beachplace. You will love it. Restaurants, beach, and plenty of watering holes just outside your villa.

In Orlando, try for LakeShore Reserve. Great pools, fitness center, and adjacent to JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton.

Have a great time!:)

Marco Island property - Crystal Shores

While it is a nice property for kids as well (nice pools) we didnt feel overrun by kids, probably because of the size of the property (still relatively small).
It had a very adult feel to it (and we had our then 11 year old daughter with us when we there) and the nicest most expansive ocean front balcony we have experienced ever, at any Marriott property.

I want to go back just for that balcony, I kid you not!

My 2 cents for what it's worth:)

I also recommend Oceana Palms unless you don't want to rent a car. Although Beachplace towers has more restaurants and entertainment within walking distance, Oceana Palms is a premium resort with great facilities, a much nicer beachfront, and is within a 15 minute drive to several excellent restaurants. It only has 2 BR villas, but has excellent availability with trust points.

Although I haven't stayed there, the reviews I have read indicate Lakeshore Reserves to be the nicest resort for adults in Orlando. I plan to stay there next Thanksgiving. Access to the JW facilities are a great asset, similar to Canyon Villas in Phoenix.

We (2 adults) were at Oceana Palms for Thanksgiving week and there were very few children. I think most of the families try for Ocean Pointe. I talked to a man who owned a week at each resort. He vacationed at Oceana Palms to rest up before he moved over to Ocean Pointe and met his grandkids there. He said it was a zoo. Very peaceful at Oceana Palms, however.

BeachPlace Towers is a beachfront location in an urban setting. Here's its webcam:

You don't need a car as you can walk or taxi to all prime areas, activities, live theatre, shopping, fine dining, deep sea fishing, etc. it's all there...and close. Airport and cruise ships 15 minutes by taxi. Only two views...oceanfront and intracoastal waterway. Million dollar views in an upscale area. Four adults will love the variety...night or day. Mainly adults...or 21+ years. I've owned there since it opened..it's like a second home to me.

We never eat dinner in, when at BeachPlace...the Ritz is right next door, then the Westin, W, Hilton, Atlantic...all upscale and with fine dining...then there's Galleria with great shops and dining at Seasons, P.F. Changs, Truluck's, and Capital Grille Steakhouse, and Blue Martini. Las Olas Blvd. is walkable with more dining and shopping choices. Seriously...you'll have a hard time narrowing down which restaurants and bars you will want to go to. Brightly lit at night and safe. Enjoy.

My own experience with Singer Island (Oceana Palms, Ocean Pointe) is that there's not a single upscale restaurant or bar unless you drive to them. Great places for a restful vacation, if that's what you want.

I can't recommend Doral at all...it's in a crummy area near the Miami airport and the hotel is no longer a Marriott. Great golf course. At least a 30 minute drive to Miami's South Beach.

Hi
In Orlando I would choose lakeshore Reserve, Cypress Harbour or Sabal palms.
Lakeshore is very high end with a fun lazy river. It has the two upscale hotels on site.

Cypress Harbour is big and had kids but is also a place where lots of adults go. There is a quiet pool with adult only hours. They have activities for adults especially between Nov-March.

Sabal palms had very few children when we were there for the month of December. You have access to the Marriott world centre pool, spa and restaurants and it is the closest marriott to disney if that is in your plans

For South Florida, I recommend Oceana Palms without reservation. BeachPlace Towers is OK but not nearly as upscale as most Marriotts. I am glad we stayed there once but would not likely go back.

For Orlando, I would recommend Sabal Palms or Lakeshore Reserve.

We own an EOY at BeachPlace Towers - which is is Ft. Lauderdale, NOT Miami, as someone else said. This is an urban place, with a beach across the street. The lower floors of this tower are commercial - handy if you want a CVS - but . . the noise coming up from the nightclubs can be annoying in the evening. Next time we are there, we are going to ask for a high floor - or a waterway view. We also will NEVER AGAIN go there during Boat Week - you cannot move (and this past year, many roads flooded so getting around was horrendous - this coming year we are going in November, so everything *should* be better.) This past Spring, we stayed at Lakeshore, and found it just gorgeous - especially the pool complex. However, at BeachPlace, you can walk to many good restaurants - and then drive to many more. At Lakeshore, you will need to drive anywhere you wish to go.

So - we have enjoyed both of these places, most definitely will return to both, but BPT is our default "get out of cold NY state" destination.

Crystal Shores and Oceana Palms are the newest and most upscale interiors with huge balconies. They also have nice large beaches. I recommend a car for both.

We also like BeachPlace Towers, which is not as upscale and is older, for the location and the fact that you can be there without a car.

We liked Sabal Palms the best in Orlando for the location next to the big Marriott- you can walk there easily- and the size of the rooms.

I agree with others that Lakeshore Reserve in Orlando is high-end, and a beautiful property that has a great layout.
However, it surprised us during an early June visit last year how many families reserve there. I guess because of its proximity to Orlando attractions but the amenities there, as well as the J.W. and Ritz restaurants, spas, etc. seem to offer less value to families than the other Marriott Club Orlando properties, such as the Palms or Cypress Harbour.
I even discussed the fact, via email, with a Marriott management executive from the property, that an "adults only" section(s) would preserve the upscale quality there as we had a few experiences that detracted from the potential of this complex.
I had children wander into the men's locker area while enjoying privacy in the men's sauna area during my visit; a number of excited kids and noise around the pool, we were even situated opposite the zero entry family area.
We had a young boy (maybe 4 yrs.) arrive soon after us that was sobbing and whining for quite sometime after we setup in what we thought was a quiet spot to read by the pool.
It seems an adults only policy in some locations at Lakeshore would be a nice feature and provide greater choice to those looking for a quieter resort location.
