From Travel Weekly:
"The Department of Transportation has approved the foreign air carrier permit application of the revamped British Virgin Islands Airways (BVIA).
The approval, granted by the DOT on Friday, accompanies the January operational approval BVIA received from the U.K.’s regulatory agency, Air Safety Support International.
BVIA is planning to fly nonstop from Miami to Tortola using two-class Avro Regional Jet 100 aircraft. The operation would be the first nonstop jet service between the mainland U.S. and Tortola. Currently, U.S. travelers to the British Virgin Islands typically connect via San Juan or fly into St. Thomas and then take a 45-minute ferry ride to Tortola.
BVIA must still get approval from the FAA before it can schedule flights. The airline expects to start the Miami-Tortola service with three to four roundtrips per week."
