We are going to Hawaii Aug 2017. We are staying in Kauai for 6 nights then going to Maui for a week. I've only been to Hawaii once (20 years ago!)

We need airfare from Kauai to Maui one way for a party of 6. What is considered a good airfare and when is the best time to book these flights? Which airlines are recommended.

Thank you!

Flights will be about $100 each.
Get them ASAP. The lowest fares disappear quick.
Hawaiian is the best airline.
If you have any leftover miles with United, Delta, or AA, see if you can use them for the flights.
We got an AA credit card, spent $1000 the first 3 months, got 30,000 miles, and used those for 4 interisland flight segments.

We just flew LIH-OGG earlier this month using AA miles on Hawaiian. Was only 5k miles when we booked but looks like AA has now increased to 7500 miles for a 1-way saver award (United is at 6k; don't know about Delta).

Also suggest picking one of the few non-stops, instead of flight connecting through HNL.

Also, be aware of a few things....

Check the flights with both open and closed legs (ie.... check home-Lihue (LIH), LIH-home, check home-LIH, OGG-home (Maui), home-OGG, OGG-home, home-LIH, OGG-home. Hope that made sense. Kayak will help you. It may be cheaper to round-trip the long voyage and round-trip the island hop.....or it may not. Also, when you book the entire trip on a single reservation (vs booking the mainland and island flights separately), you MAY be able to check your luggage all the way to destination; if that is even a factor (may not be).

Good luck!

I recommend getting the Hawaiian Airlines MasterCard from Barclays Bank. There is an introductory bonus of something like 35,000 Hawaiian miles. Inter-island flights were 7500 miles last time I looked but the extra advantage of using your Hawaiian Air credit card is that you get a free bag if you charge your flight (the 9/11 security fee works if you book with miles) to the card. There is no other way I know of to get a free bag unless you have elite status with Hawaiian Airlines, and not many non-Hawaii residents do. The free bag is only for the primary cardholder so my wife and I each have the card and we book each person separately, using our respective cards.

Great idea. Also, if you fly them from the mainland to Hawaii, one companion gets half off on the ticket.
