We are spending the night prior to what we thought was an early morning flight out of LAX. Our 10:30 AM flight has now turned in to a 6 PM flight.

I have a hotel which will allow late check out. Any suggestions to keep the kids occupied while we wait out the unexpected delay? Is there anything a short cab ride away that will keep the kids, a boy 10 and a girl 7, occupied while we wait? I really don't want to spend it in a hotel room.

Here is what is at the airport. There may be a play area inside, but I couldn't find it on the maps or site. There isn't much in the area that you can reach by walking that we remember.

Rent a car for a day if necessary. Lots to do in LA.

Did you call the airline and tell them the change is unacceptable and they need to put you on an earlier flight? What airline is it and where are you going?

We had a non-stop from LAX to Lihue, Kauai on American. We still have a non-stop but it's a much later one. I'm going to call American and see about connecting in Honolulu. The only issue is that it's a frequent flyer award so it's probably going to be tougher to change.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Day of flight, award tickets are like any other ticket. You can be re-routed, endorsed, standby, etc...myriad of options. The only limit is the creativity of the agent helping you.

We were re-routed and endorsed to another airline during a recent mx issue which would have made our trip in vain. That's a nice phrase to use when talking to the agent, though it might be viewed skeptically for Hawaii as a destination ;) :D

I agree with the suggestion to pop over to the beach. It's fun and not far.
