Finding a hammock in Cancun and other items

Anyone know where is the best place to find the "hammock of my dreams"?
I want an authentic Mexican hammock without the wooden bar.

Any silver jewlery ideas?? I do know to look for the 925 stamp.

Need the vanilla too.

I saw Brant's video of Market 28 and was wondering if that is where return Cancun vacationers do their shopping for the most part. I'll take any ideas.

Last year, I got the best deals on jewelry at Flamingo Plaza. I was buying silver w/platinum overlay w/cz very cheap there.

Well I'd have to say I am all about the price. Negotiate in other works.

For Vanilla, I'd recommend Azteca brand. It's available all over the hotel zone. price is fairly consistent throughout all the shops.

Some people don't enjoy the bartering but if you do then I would say it is worth going downtown to Market 28 or Ki Huic. The vendors will be willing to go a little lower than the shops in the hotel zone.

Knowledge of spanish helps but is not necessary, and always be ready to walk away if you don't like the price. Someone else will have something you like.

I usually negotiate a bit and then when we seem to have hit bottom I make a final offer that is lower but in cash, no credit. That usually works or at least gets the price down a bit more.

So do most vacationers go to Market 28 or just stick to the hotel zone? If I'm just saving a small amount then why go to M28? I just thought the vendors may need money more than the shops in the hotel zone.

Still looking for the best place to buy a mexican hammock.

A lot of people never venture outside of the hotel zone and they are missing out on some of the better restaurants and shops in Cancun.

Collectivo on the way to Chichenitza

Brant's tour bus stops at a collectivo on the way to Chichenitza. They had a very large selection of nice hammocks and, yes, you can negotiate a price.
Although I bought a hammock without the wooden frame, they had that kind and "chair" hammocks. You can also see weavers making the hammocks there.

This was two years ago. Check with Brant to see if they still stop there.

Elaine, hubby told me the hammock would weigh to much to bring home. I have considered ordering one online. I'll just have to see.

Silver, vanilla and a hammock....oh maybe some wind chimes....like I need more of those. Am I missing anything else??

A TUGger recommended Map Chick to me. I bought several of her "Can-Do" maps for my upcoming trip to Cozumel and the Riviera Maya. They're not only maps, but a wealth of information and shopping tips. I haven't had a chance to put them to the test yet, but I think they'd answer all your questions.

Mexican blankets. They have those at the collectivo too. Take your time and get a thick, woven one. You can get thinner ones too for about $6 each or less. They make good beach mats. I bought a thicker one that I love. My bedroom overlooks my family room and I have it draped over the balcony there.
