A while back, I used some of my points to stay at the Club Intrawest in Zihuatanejo. It was gorgeous and my friend and I had a great time.

Since then, I haven't been back to Mexico and have been thinking about getting back there.

I'm curious to try one of the Fiesta Americana resorts, and I'm curious what the group here would recommend. I enjoy staying in-resort, but I also love a fun town / sites to explore nearby as well. I'd prefer to not have to rent a car.

The Cancun property is right in the thick of things and you can either walk or take the bus. The Cabo property would require a car or several cab rides.

Should mention, I don't mind a tourist town, but Cancun is a bit too overdeveloped (or poorly developed) in my mind. But mostly, I'm just curious which of the Fiesta Americana resorts are best for a first experience with that brand.

The Cabo property is probably the newest and nicest. We just were in Bacalar for two days and now we are kind of interested in the Kohunlich property.

Thanks – any thoughts on the all-inclusive aspects? How hard is it to get from the Los Cabos resort to surrounding attractions and restaurants?

There are no restaurants close by so you would need to shuttle, taxi, or rent a car to buy groceries or go to town. AI is optional and you can decide on a few days and add onto it when you get there. I noticed that it is listed as $80 pp / day on HGVC which is not bad. RCI reservations have increased AI to $120 pp/ day which makes it uneconomical for those exchanges.

BTW...I just noticed that HGVC added FA Cabo double bed hotel rooms as an option for as little as 1760 pts for a week during platinum and it can now be booked online. The only downside is that the $80 pp/day inclusive is required on these rooms. With points so low, however, perhaps adding AI cash to the reservation is not a bad option - especially for a long weekend getaway. This also provides a great option to use up stray points at the end of the year without banking fees or letting points go to waste. This is a beautiful resort.

Thanks for the info, CalGalTraveler! Appreciate it. I don't mind paying for AI if I think there's at least some value (and tasty food!) involved.

Glad to assist. Be sure to check out the ceviche bar by to the lower (hotel) pool for lunch. Fresh fish ceviche, shrimp and tacos (plus margaritas!)
