I am considering a stay at the Fiesta Americana Acapulco but am not sure about Acapulco these days. I have not been there for over 20 years and at that time it was over built and not real appealing. However shopping and food was great. Does anyone know about this resort and Acapulco in general? Thanks Sooby

The only timeshare I would stay at in ACA is the Grand Mayan or the Mayan Palace. Not familiar with Fiesta Americana but we stayed at the Hyatt Regency for two nights before going to the Mayan Palace and what a difference. The Hyatt was just OK and two nights was about all I wanted to stay there and we were on the Regency level which is their premier floors. Once we arrived at the Mayan Palace we knew we made the right choice.

I thought the Mayan Palace was even nicer than the Fairmont Princess which is one of the highest rated resorts in Acapulco. So for our next trip we are confimed into the Grand Mayan which is on the same property as the Mayan Palace just nicer. :hi: :cheer:

Acapulco, the city, is interesting to visit (high end restaurants, the requisite cliff divers, fancy discos) but I agree it's best to stay at Mayan Palace/Grand Mayan and drive or taxi in.

Grand Mayan is super superior to Mayan Palace, so if you book Mayan Palace and they offer you the upgrade to Grand Mayan to take the tour, it's worth the wasted time and listening to their lies about the money you'll make renting out what they sell you. Beware of the 'exit deal' too - - that is, the special offer the owner's representative makes after you finish with your tour salesman - - we nearly fell for it!!

Has anyone stayed at this timeshare? Do the studios have sofabeds? Anything else you can tell me about it?

I'm an Acapulco regular--Mayan Palace and sometimes Grand. However, I've stayed a few times at the FA in the city.

It's recently been renovated. I've always like the location...in the middle of the main bay area. The pool is probably one of the best in the city itself. I've had no problems w/ the rooms, although my experience has only been the hotel.

I love Acapulco. It's still a city, but larger than it was 20 years ago. Food runs the whole field..high-class to taco or torta stands on the streets. Shopping isn't world-class, but there are several nice malls, including one that opened up a couple of years ago. There are the beaches like Pie de la Cuesta to spend the day in the shade of palm trees w/ quaint (but good) restaurants. Then there are beach clubs the other way out toward Bonfil and Barra Vieja where red snapper is king!

The FA is close to the party scene. Even if you don't party til dawn anymore, it's still fun to go to Barbarroja and people watch. Then, of course, the city comes to life at night on the weekends w/ the world-class discos (if you're into that) such as Baby'O and Palladium.

English is spoken at the front desk. You could always make a call directly to the hotel to get an answer to your sofabed question.

I just looked at the OP's posting date. 2007! Geez, I should have looked!

Rather than starting another thread, I added a question yesterday. So it's really not that old!
