Is there any real advantage to having all your points at one resort? For example: if I have 300k Fairfield points at 4 different locations (75K/location) -I still have 300K points right? and if I travel mostly in the off season there should be no problem, correct? Also, is there a really big reason to have 600k points like the salesmen try to get you up to? Thanks for any input you might have. Caroline

I've moved this thread to the Wyndham forum where Fairfield is discussed.

I personally don't feel it is an advantage to having all points at one resort unless you need the ability to ARP into a resort to get the week you want. As far as needing 600k points, that is a decision only you can make considering where you want to go, when you want to go and the number of points needed to accomplish getting into your desired destination resorts. I don't have anywhere near 600 points. I feel 154 points is adequate for my present needs.

My current points were purchased on the resale market. Any points I might add to my account will also be purchased resale. I have no desire to pay retail prices to qualify for what little additional benefits the VIP program offers.

I agree with Dale about resale vs. developer in the Fairfield arena. Even if you pay the $25 for transactions, guest certificates, etc., figure out how many $25 nicks you would need to cover the difference in cost between the two.

There are some reciprocal advance reservations and some advance associate resort advance reservations that only come with VIP but having used FF system for about a year, I have been able to plan to get all resorts I wanted.

Finally, what can YOU afford? That's probably the most important question you should answer no matter what TS you buy.

FF Points

Thanks for the replies. Now another question along this same line: if I decide to purchase more poits on a resale, should I try and get the same cycle? My current points usage runs from Oct - Sept. I noticed some others run Jan to Dec. This forum is a great learning tool for me. I get much better answers here than from reps at the resorts. Thanks...

Having the same cycle just makes it easier for you to keep up with as otherwise you have overlapping points usage. I have heard you can get FF to set all of your contracts on the same usage period, don't know how true that is.

I would not pass up a good buy (price, points & MF) just because it had a different usage period than what I already have.

resale points are the way to go.

i dont think the VIP benefits you get from buying from developer are worth it

If you don't mind the confusion, it sometimes actually better than all the use year lumped together. I have June use year and one even year and one odd year. It is actually like to have point coming in every 6 month. Together with RCI deposit, borrow points, I actually can mange to use all my points easier.
