Greetings TUG family, I (female) am in search of planning my first solo trip to London, Paris & Rome. I like the idea of a group travel with leisure options. Looking for recommendations for best group travel.

do you want a solo trip, or group travel?

Overseas Adventure Travel has excellent group trips, and will match you up with a same gender co- traveler to avoid the dreaded solo supplement. Be mindful that with groups, THEY set the stops and route.

Thanks, Jim for the information. Since I will be traveling solo, I actually prefer preplanned stops and sites. I will check out your recommendation.

OAT is outstanding. They have a few single slots available on each of their trips, but they fill up fast. If you book a trip as a solo traveler on a singles slot, you don't have to pay the single supplement. That's why I chose them for my Balkan Peninsula trip last year, and for my African safari next year.

BTW, just pointing out that this thread is on the Hawaii forum so the mods might end up moving it.

Thank you! How is the thread listed on the Hawaii forum?

You can click the 'report' link at the bottom of this post and ask that a moderator move the thread to the Travel Info forum.
Thanks, Jim. I did not realize that I mistakenly posted to the Hawaii forum. I have requested post to be moved to the travel forum. You guys are the best with helpful/useful information.

I see that it has been moved.

We have taken a few Road Scholar trips. They are geared to educators primarily. We found them knowledgeable, but just minimally recreational. There tend to be some class lecture type activity. On one cruise we took, most guests were in shorts & T's, and a contingent of RS folks were in safari jackets & hats with one side brim snapped up. Each to their own. OTOH, one RS trip we took was snowmobiling in Yellowstone with Naturalists & Geologists. Very interesting.

Anyway, any kind of travel beats not doing it. Enjoy!

We took a RS trip to Cuba and thought it was very well done, both in terms of learning about the island and having a fun time. I wouldn't think of them as geared to educators, just people who are curious about places they visit. We found the mix of travelers in our group friendly and welcoming. Several of the travelers had done other RS tours and liked them and also recommended OAT tours.

We have also traveled twice with Insight Tours, once to Istanbul with a cruise to several Greek Islands and ending in Athens and once to the major sights in Italy on a bus tour. They are a step down in price and quality of hotels but we still enjoyed both trips. We did the Italy trip a year ago and really appreciated how Insight had arranged for scheduled admissions to major museums, given the long lines these days. They also had local tour guides join us several times to give more in depth tours of museums or Venice than our regular guide could have done. You do have to be careful looking at price because they offer many activities as “optional,” meaning you have to pay extra for those. We did several of the optional tours but didn't do some of the group dinners. We tend to find those end up being sort of mediocre and we don't mind finding somewhere to eat on our own, especially these days with Trip Adviser and similar apps.

All advice is most helpful. I found EF goaheadtours.com that offers London, Paris, & Rome. I am comparing them to those recommended by TUG members. If anyone has reviews for goaheadtours, I am all ears.
