My husband mentioned recently (in the past few days) he heard on either TV or the radio something like:
A well known sports star's wife?
was driving when STOP SAFELY NOW came on
then some problem etc
("stop safely now" is a HYBRID vehicle problem - when the vehicle shuts down unexpectantly because it suspect a hazard like an electrical problem or fire could happen - http://www.bing.com/search?q=stop+s...pq=stop+safely+now+suv+wife&sc=1-17&sp=-1&sk= )

IF anyone heard this or hears it repeated soon, can you PLEASE let us know more specifics?

My husband said it sounded nearly identical to our problem:

Our 84 month warranty expires on 11 Aug 2012 or 75K miles. We are at 42K miles. Ken wants to drive to Mexico again: CA, Baja, BajaFerries.com, MZT, PVR then probably over to Cancun for Christmas->Easter then back to MZT and on to CA.

We are struggling with Ford Motor Company again to PLEASE advise us of any RECALL notices on our VIN. Yes, I realize that SHOULD BE a simply request. But they play games and have not been honest with us. We have an appointment to leave our car with them tomorrow. We want to know IF there is ANY reason they suspect we MIGHT have a problem since Ford Motor Company does NOT allow Ford Dealerships to service FEH (Ford Escape Hybrids.)

It would probably be less expensive to skip Baja and fly SFO->MZT & MZT-CUN, CUN-MZT & MZT-SFO. We prefer our dentist in Mazatlan and Ken thinks it is convenient to have our car for appointments. Since he probably needs one of two dental implants which have to be 'staged' we figure we will have the first stage of implants done in October and the final stages of the crowns done in March or April.

We hope to buy a Smart Car. We saw the newest models at the May 2012 Beijing Auto Show. BUT Mecedes had completely DIFFERENT cars for Mexico then the do for the U.S. and we have not been able to determine IF we could get service for a Smart Car purchased in California IF we take it into Mexico. OR if we can purchase a Smart Car in Mexico and obtain servicing in the U.S.

Thanks in advance.

did you try these sites?
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallsearch.cfm
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/tsbs/

http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0ff5b5/46

also if you pay for a carfax (carfax.com) they will list any open recalls on a car (at least when I was used car shopping they did).
