While I would love to get the pie in the sky Grand Californian for a Disneyland trip......

What are your second favorite timeshares to stay at in the Disneyland area? Are Ongoing Searches necessary for these? Thinking of going during the summertime.

Here's how I would rank them:

Marriott's Newport Villas (30 Min. away)
Worldmark (blocks away)
Dolphin's Cove (blocks away)
Peacock Suites (blocks away)

Don't forget to check the TUG Ratings and Reviews: http://tug2.com/RnR/ResortsGrid.aspx?ResortArea=6&ResortGroup=56

With exchanging, an on-going request is always the best practice - what you see online is the leftovers.

I have stayed at Dolphin's Cove and thought it was extremely adequate. The Toy Story parking lot is a block away. The units are like small apartments converted to timeshare units. If you are out all day, they are great. If you plan to stay around the room, maybe not the best choice.

I also stayed at Peacock Suites and will only stay there if I really just want to sleep somewhere on the cheap. I would never suggest exchanging into it. Those are converted motel rooms with a mini fridge and microwave. When I stayed there, I only used the room to shower and sleep and it was fine for that. The service was bad.

I think I did reviews on both of those in the TUG marketplace. I suggest reading those and any others that aren't more than a couple years old.

I haven't stayed at WM Anaheim, but will sometime. If you are exchanging, I'd do an ongoing search for Disney VGC and WM Anaheim. Maybe add Dolphins Cove, but there might be several RCI codes for that place. I stayed via WM, but WM only has a few units there. Disney and WM Anaheim will be significantly nicer than Dolphin's Cove and Peacock Suites.

Marriott's Newport Coast Villas is a great resort and about a 30 minute drive from Disneyland, without traffic. Traffic can easily double that drive. Newport Coast exchanges with II and is a very tough trade in July or August.

Are you trying to exchange with II or RCI? I think the others all exchange with RCI?

I've never stayed at WM Anaheim and never will because of the daily fees. Dolphin's Cove is our top choice other than VGC. They have free parking and wifi and we like the accommodations just fine. Driving into the toy story lot there is much faster than the ART shuttle or mickey & friends garage.

BTW, RCI lists DC as having taxes or something daily, but this isn't true. We've never had to pay a dime extra when exchanging there.

As for an ongoing search, if you want summer, you need to do the search. They've already made their bulk deposit for 2015, so you'll only get cancellations at this point. I don't think it's too hard though. I have ongoing searches going and that's a resort that frequently seems to come up if you aren't needing a 2 or 3 bedroom.

Oh, one bummer thing though, if you exchange for a 1 bedroom, they'll put you in their tiniest layout which isn't too great for 4 people. If you do a 2 bedroom, you'll only get the 1 bath layout. They give all the better units to the owners first.

Thanks for all the thoughts everyone. They are helpful, and I will definitely check out the reviews page.

We are most likely trading through RCI, although we do have access to II as well.

You have mentioned 4 resorts, but I can see Dolphin's Cove Resort and WorldMark Dolphin's Cove. Are those the same resort? It looks like one just might be for a Points account and one for Weeks?

The other resort that hasn't been mentioned is the Wyndham Anaheim. Should we stay away from that one?

It's funny because I could thought the Peacock Suites looked fun, but I can see now that they are probably tiny units :p

I have an ongoing search set up from awhile ago for the VGC, so I think I'll add these others. I think I am sorry I missed the bulk deposit on the others already, but at the same time I haven't hit the 7 month mark yet for VGC. So who knows if by some miracle that one came through. Tough choices to make.....

Wyndham Anaheim has a few units at Worldmark Anaheim. It is one resort.

Worldmark Dolphin's Cove has a few units at Wyndham Dophin's Cove. It is one resort

^2 resorts with room for 2 different types of owners. There will be 4 RCI codes for the 2 resorts.

Same resort

It's Worldmark Anaheim

Worldmark and Wyndham are affiliated so you see some crossover in the names.

If you're only going to Disneyland then it makes sense to stay nearby. But personally I like to stay near the beach and drive into Anaheim for Disney visits. That way we can stay a week by the beach and do Disneyland one or two days during the trip.
