Hi all. One of my kids will be starting college this fall in Redlands Ca, which is about 40 miles from Palm Springs. Thinking about grabbing some getaway stays when we can when we come for visits, etc. any suggestions of ones to look for? Any that are more bearable when it’s really hot there (eg pool or? I’ve never stayed in PS so clueless.

Any of the Marriott or Westin properties are good. We've stayed at all of them. I wouldn't say that any are better or worse than others when it comes to the heat. Heat is heat. You get used to it fast. We actually travel from Florida to Palm Desert and Scottsdale every summer. We leave heat and humidity for dry heat. Some say it doesn't matter, but we seem to like it. Getaways can be pretty cheap. SOmetimes getting the best prices might mean waiting it out. We booked some good prices in June for late August and September.

Besides Palm Desert/Palm Springs (~45min), you can also look at the resorts in Big Bear (~1 hr).

You may just be able to book fairly inexpensive lodging (non timeshare) in Redlands. My perception is that it's less expensive than the bigger metro areas like LA. I grew up nearby and my sister lives there so I stay at her house so might be wrong. But it is worth checking.

Also consider Lake Arrowhead. It is a little closer to Redlands than Palm Desert or Big Bear Lake. Also, in the summer, because of its elevation, it doesn't get all that hot. I think that it is pretty easy to get a low cost getaway in Redlands.

I think so. Make sure to check the reviews first. I'm not familiar with any of the resorts there.

Yes, it shows up under "Big Bear". I see it fairly frequently in the Getaway section but only occasionally as an exchange. It is nothing fancy but the location is decent. I'd suggest reading Tripadvisor reviews or Tug2 reviews.
