We do a VRBO in Maui because Marriott does not have a timeshare on the Southside of the island (Kihei, Wailea, Makena). There are a few non-Marriott timeshares that are in Interval International but that would not be a good trade value. The Marriott timeshare's on the Westside of the island are beautiful and a good choice to stay. We don't book there because we lived in Kihei and really love that area. The Royal Mauian that we book is located between Kamaole Beach 1 and 2. They are very swimmable beaches. The rocky area infront of the hotel has turtles all day hanging out and great for snorkling. We can walk to about 10 restaurants across the street, snorkle rental shops, a natural food grocery market, smoothie/coffee stand, general store, tourist shopping and see amazing sunsets. But it is definitely not a resort like the Marriott. Marriott has a resort in Wailea that is beautiful but not part of the timeshare program. We were told that when the program changes this summer that there will be an option to book it with points but I don't think they have kitchen's there. Kihei is also a shorter drive to the top of the Volcano and Up Country sites, the road to Hana, the North Shore and of course the south end. Westside is just under an hour drive from Kihei and we usually do a day trip there.Hi! I was reading your post and do you do a VRBO in Maui because it is more expensive to use points in Maui? More difficult to get into Maui Mariott etc? I was just curious, I liked that option I was just curious why and what your advice is with that.
Thanks!
