There is an ebay listing right now for a Fairfield Wyndham but it lists the points as Club Wyndham Access.

Should this be setting off any alarm bells for me? I haven't seen a Fairfield Wyndham offering like this before. Same as all the other CWA points?

Here is the listing:

There are 23 Club Wyndham Access Contracts on ebay right now. The ebay ad you cite mentions Branson. This is but one of the many resorts in the club.

Club Wyndahm Access Points are the same as any Wyndham points contract only different.

If you dont understand what you are bidding on, you probably shouldnt bid. There are lots of discussions here on TUG that discuss this stuff in more detail, but the high-lights are these

1) CWA is not a deeded ownership. or better stated the deeds for CWA properties are held by the club.

2) There is no home resort in CWA, or rather all the resorts in the club are your home resort

3) mf is about $5.4/1000 points which is an average of all the resort's in the club individual mfs

4) At 13 months you can make reservations at any of the resorts in the club subject to the inventory held by the club. At 10 months your points work at all the Wyndham resorts

Thanks Ron - I do understand Club Wyndham Access - I just wasn't sure if it being Fairfield impacted the deal. As a side note I've really enjoyed the tremendous amount of experience you have put out on this BBS. Reading through a lot of your past posts on Wyndham has helped me immensely as I decide whether or not to add a Wyndham week into my collection.

My final stumbling block is this - If I use RCI points to book a 2br prime season week at a Wyndham it costs me about $650 between MF and the booking fee. If I bought the best priced Wyndham point package that same week would cost me around $900+ in MF. Of course booking through Wyndham is going to give me better and earlier access while RCI leaves me only the "leftovers." So.... Is it worth paying 40% more to get better access?

In your experience do you think I am missing anything?

And the struggle to decide continues...

Fairfield is the OLD NAME for the Wyndham timeshares. Merger or buyout or consolidation --- whatever you want to call it, Fairfield was re-branded as Wyndham. The eBay sellers try as hard as possible to list anything that might be looked for via that ebay search functions.

Yes, RCI Points can get you a cheaper in to stay at Wyndham. Leftover? I have gotten some great Wyndham resorts as HIGH SEASON and HIGH DEMAND thru booking RCI exchanges. And I own a bunch of Wyndham points --- I just follow the money and try to keep as much of my money in MY BANK.

I recommend you do the same (keep as much of YOUR dollars in your bank account). And rent cheaper vacations from the other Wyndham owners who do rentals as a means to lessen their ongoing cost of MFs and nickle and dime charges. PS Many who rent their points reservations have VIP (Platimum) status and can get discounts you and I can't.

Building on what Linda said...if you are looking for the best price for you vacation accommodations, Wyndham probably isnt for you.

I originally bought into the Wyndham system because they have lots of places close to my home in Florida, that I can get to in just a few hours. Also Wyndham has the only 2 timeshares in The Washington DC area, where I lived until 15 years ago and where my wife and I have family. Also Wyndham has a resort in San Francisco where my daughter and grandkids live.....So for me Wyndham was a no brainer

And those costs you cite are not the whole story....
Im going to be in Orlando for the Food and Wine festival this weekend for 2 nights. Two couples in a lockoff is discounted 35% this weekend so it will cost less than $100 a night. This was a last minute thing. I made the reservation last night...I dont know but I bet you cant do that with RCI points at this late date

So....can you do better with another system? sure, sometimes, but you could do worse too..it depends on how you intend to use the system

Thanks all - Just finally bought a small contract on ebay so that I can see if it will make sense for us. Thanks again Ron for your advice. You are right - nothing great is ever available from RCI at the last minute. Also Newport rentals aren't very easy to find even in the shoulder season (or when you find them they are pricey). I appreciate your comments Linda that I might be better off renting but I'm not very good at self-control and I get too tempted to jump in!

So you left the three auctions for over a million points for me...thanks

I purchased a club access 126,000 point package that CJ had listed. I was struggling with the decision to buy either the lowest MF or the better ARP. I figured this was I can play around with the Wyndham res system and see what I actually need. With a 2 year old and a newborn booking on those all important school vaca weeks is going to be very important soon!

I've got to admit those million point contracts are VERY tempting. Its crazy to me that so many are on the market at such attractive pricing. I've got to imagine that at some point they will start trading at a premium.

For what its worth I spent a career traveling on a great expense account at Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton properties. I still have about 25 "comp'd" nights at Four Seasons properties but since I started buying timeshares I haven't used a single one. As much as I love Four Seasons I find it an even better luxury having a kitchen, a living room, laundry in the unit etc!

Thanks again for all the help everyone!

Congrats!:cheer: Thats a good size contract to "learn the ropes". In time you can always buy more points. There will be "deals" next year no need to rush.:)
