EZ PASS scam

I just received a text saying to be sure to pay our toll balance by March 5th to avoid accumulated fines. My first thought is we did recently drive I 10 to Palm Springs and I do remember seeing an EZ Pass lane but we weren't in that lane. Then I wondered how did EZ Pass get my phone number. I hadn't clicked the text link and after reading Google decided it was a scam so I reported it.

It's odd that we would get a text like this from a legit toll company as my phone number has never been part of my vehicle registration.

I get the same toll text all the time in spite of the fact that my toll charges are automatically paid every time I encounter a toll. I suspect they're phishing and sending out the same text to every cell number in the USA......

Sad to say it is just one of many useless scams out there!

generally rule, never click the link, always log into the app or the website directly, and see if it is spam or real.

Both my wife and I have gotten this scam text a number of times. I knew it was a scam, but the phone number they posted was not even a US phone number...

They blast out the scam text to the whole world, hoping that someone might think that since they were on the toll road 2 months ago that it must be legit. Think about it though, if it is a violation they would have your license plate and address, not your cell phone.

The most recent toll scam text I received came from a phone number with a country code of the Philippines.

We received this Toll Scam, delete and post as junk.

If you get a legitimate charge from a toll road, it will be by mail to the address of the license plate.

When I reported it as a scam it did block the number as well. I now have more blocked numbers than contacts, lol.

I get so many scam calls and texts that I keep the ringer off on my phone. I get them in my emails too. The funniest no so funny recent email was one that I thought was from car dealership. When I opened it it had a link to the car. Nope. It was some woman asking me if I wanted to see her naked or something like this. Earlier this day I had posted a song on Tug so the volume was up on my lap top. Everyone heard this lady, lol.

you need to get a spam text blocker app like Robokiller
Tmobile does a decent job of blocking spam before it even gets to the phone

I receive at least one a week from ez pass scam and recruiters......delete, delete. I gave up on blocking and reporting

They are seeming to get smarter. The last one even referred to to MNDot (I'm in Minnesota).

We get them. Though they are for Ohio tolls. Our phone number is an Ohio area code. From what I read in the past, they really just seem to try to get people to pay a small amount. When they blast these out to a lot of people, even if a tiny percentage responds and pays something it can add up to a lot of money. Then there is the risk that your credit card is compromised, but it mostly just seems like a way to skim money from people.

Scammers are getting more and more creative in the ways they target folks. I too received such text messages after my drive from Wisconsin to Tennessee. I knew my "new" IPass account was properly set up but still have to verify with the hubby who assured me it was a scam.

I'm to the point I think many things are a scam of some sort.

I have gotten multiple texts like this, especially in the last couple of weeks. I clicked on the link and gave them my Social Security number and my mother's maiden name. Did I do anything wrong

Good to know. I'm not sure what the toll lanes were called on I 10 out of LA but we weren't in them. It wouldn't have mattered on the day we were on I 10. It was slow no matter what lane you were in.

Being surrounded by toll lanes managed by different entities in Texas, I am used to them. In my many years of living here and driving through them with or without a tag or account, I have never received a text from any of the different ones. They send a letter if you didn't have a tag or there was a problem and your tag could not be read.
So when I got the text last week, I didn't even bother to think about it. Hit Spam and done.
