An owner who wanted to cancel his WKORV Resv. was trying to call Owner Services yesterday (right at the 60 days deadline) and could not get through. (Yes, I know you can cancel online - it wasn't me.) He called this morning and asked for an special exception and was granted it, no problem. The phone Rep. told him they were extending the 60 day cancellation deadline due to the Maui fire. As you know, Owner Services is inconsistent, but if you are past the CXL deadline and need to cancel - call them and ask for an extension.

But the points will still expire based on the use year? So they might still need to be used in 2023 but they could possible reserve now for any time this year?

No - that's the regular cancellation rule. The Staroptions were not restricted: they were banked into 24/25 with an 8 mo. reservation window.

Do we know how much further they are extending the 60 day cancellation window? Or is it at the whim of the rep. Perhaps this was a special case since the owner couldn't get through yesterday and today just happens to be day 60?

Don't know.

I just called and still could not get any extension on points usage , will expire at end of 23'. Also, can not move to resort credit for 24' because they will expire in 23'. This was rule according to owner services rep. on phone call just now.

I think they were wrong per the T&C so I'd call back. Even if they were previously banked options you had Use Rights in 2023 so should be able to apply them to a 2024 reservation.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. Participants must be VSN members with sufficient available StarOptions to reserve a Resort Credit. Vacation Ownership Interests (“VOIs”) purchased through an unauthorized resale agent or HOA resale offer, or VOIs not enrolled in the VSN, are not eligible for this offer.
  2. Only eligible VOIs with Use Rights in the year of or the year after the Resort Credit transaction date are eligible. Multiple eligible VOIs may be combined and applied toward a Resort Credit booking.
  3. Resort Credit bookings may be applied only to a reservation with guest name matching the Owner name. Home Resort reservations not affiliated with VSN and third-party reservations are not eligible.
  4. Resort Credit must be activated by Owner at the Concierge desk upon arrival.
  5. Credit may only be applied at check-out to designated eligible amenity services, merchandise, and food and beverage outlets that are purchased on‑site and charged to your villa folio. Not valid for room, tax, gift cards, gratuities, charitable donations, or any other items, fees, or services.
  6. Designated amenity services, merchandise, and food and beverage outlets are subject to change.
  7. Any items purchased with the Resort Credit and properly returned during corresponding occupancy will result in a reinstatement of the appropriate amount to the Resort Credit. Items purchased with the Resort Credit may not be returned after check-out.
  8. You may be subject to additional terms and conditions as set forth by the Resort or VSN Administrator.
  9. Sponsor reserves the right to change the Terms and Conditions, as well as supplement, terminate, or extend the Resort Credit offer at any time without notice.

Yes, you can use 2023 SOs for a 2023 or a 2024 booking, but you have to apply them before Dec 31, 2023. Once they expire, they're gone.

Our ownership at WKORV was purchased through resale. This may affect our ability to use points as resort credit?

Yes - per (1) resort credit can only be bought with points earned from developer purchased or officially requalified VOIs.

Aloha Denise, unfortunately no go. I called Owner Services and ended up talking to a resolution specialist, this after receiving a email today from Vistana very strongly suggesting we cancel our September Nanea reservation. I asked the “specialist” for an extension to the 60 day cutoff and he flat refused. When I asked about the language in the email stating all cancelation fees would be waived, he said that applies to cancellation fees that apparently some have, not the reinstatement of options. Which of course was no surprise.

On a positive note, I did talk to Travelex and confirmed we can file a claim for a refund of our maintenance fees as long as we don’t cancel the reservation.

But don’t you have to cancel your reservation, due to the fires? I’d be shocked if maintenance fees are refunded. Keep us posted….

Apologies for any confusion, Travelex provides the Trip Insurance offered through Vistana. No, you don’t have to cancel and if you do, you cannot file a claim with Travelex for your maintenance fees should you have the insurance.

If you have a mix of developer and unauthorized resale how would they apply this rule and how would you know exactly which VOI they are coming from?

Here is a brief comment from another owner who was able to get unrestricted Staroptions banked for his 2 Sept. 5th reservations:

Interestingly, she [phone Rep] said at first that the system wouldn’t let her do it without restriction. But then she tried again and was successful with both reservations. So, I banked the 222K from these two reservations along with the remaining 12K, and she verified those options are all good through 12/31/2025.

Are these reservations made with current year VOIs as SO reservations at 8 months from other resorts or are they home resort bookings?

Staroption reservations - not sure of the use year.

Staroption reservations - not sure of the use year.
If they were able to bank to 2025 then it would have to be from the 2023 use year. Good data point. Thanks for sharing.

Oh duh - yep, you are right!

Ditto, I was told the same thing. I feel, in light of what has happened on Maui, they should be more flexible. But then again, it’s Marriott, so I’m not holding my breath.

SUCCESS! I just called Vistana back (3rd time now) and asked for my two reservations in early Sept at KOR to be cancelled (Sept 5 for 5 nights and Sept 7 for 2, as I had people joining us). Anyway, got the normal policy speech (restricted). I mentioned that the Gov is now requesting people to not come through mid Oct, etc. He repeated the policy, mentioned Interval (which I didn't want) and then said, if I like he can ask his "Resolution Team" if they can make an exception... ah duh, yes please.

To my surprise, 4 min later he came back on the line and said they granted a 1 time exception on both reservations and all my points are back unrestricted (they were 2024 points).. I confirmed all back in my account like it never happened!

I am not an elite member (I think I am currently in the Select category). Anyway wanted to share and suggest if you do call again, be very nice and ask him/her to try the Resolution Team. Good luck...
