I see the exit row is available but instead of three seats there are only two seats which are the middle and isle seats. When I look at seat guru it shows an isle of three seats. Is there actually three seats or only the two seats as shown on the seat layout from Alaska Airlines ? If there isn't a window seat , what is in that spot ? Is it just empty space in front of the exit door ?

I don't know about this particular Alaska plane, but I have been on planes that had an Exit row with just two seats, the middle and aisle. It is just empty space where the window seat would be. The person sitting behind that empty spot gets a lot more leg room, but they may have to put all carry ons in the overhead.

What version of 737/flight#?

Alaska Air is in the process of modifying their 737-900 aircraft which will add more economy plus seats but realign the seats behind to make up for the difference. These are placeholders at the moment as the aircraft has not been assigned for future flights. Unfortunately with the realignment, the exit rows will not recline and there will not be increased legroom for row 17 with two seats.

Looks like the additional premium rows are going to push back row 16, reducing the legroom of row 17, and requiring the removal of A/F to maintain the required clearance around the exit.

Thanks Lynne. I'm guessing the a/f is the window seat. So is the space where the window seat is just an empty area ?

Does 739 sound right ? It's what I see on seat guru. Seat guru has these seats colored green. There is no indication of the recline function at seat guru. We rarely recline anyway so it doesn't matter.

Yes, that would make row 18AF window seats allowing incredible legroom. I am not sure if it is the 737-900 or the 737-800 that is up for the realignment. For those flights in the future, either aircraft can be used. I am in the same boat as I have a flight in October that has row 17 as the 2 seater with row 18 blocked off. Hopefully when AS does it's next schedule updates, we will be able to see which aircraft they will be assigning to the routes. I am not looking forward to a 5+ hour flight without e+ or true exit row seating. We always have preferred the exit rows on the AS aircraft to anything in e+.

I'm liking that there are only two seats in the row more than anything else.

We always pick two seat rows when they are available. 🤙🏻

As nice as a 2 seater is, reduced legroom and no recline would be an issue for us.

I read on seat guru that the carry on storage could be impacted and that storing items under the seat could be a problem during take off and landing.

I usually don't have either of those issues when we have gotten them before. Our seats have always reclined and the legroom seemed the same to us. I believe we have inky gotten them on 787's. 🤙🏻

I have definitely had exit row seats that don't recline, and with no under-seat storage. Some people are bothered by the extra wind noise with the door, and some complain that it's often colder near the emergency exits.

All the years I had elite status to be able to book those seats without any extra fee, I always like the bulkhead seats just as much as the exit row. Also good legroom. Since the airlines devalued their ff programs and I now just fly price, it is a luxury I rarely get any more to grab these prime seats.

I kind of remember the Alaska Airlines exit door panel falling off and with the extra wind noise with cooler temps I'm thinking I will let my wife have the middle seat, lol.

I ended up reserving these seats with our mileage plan for the same amount of miles that it takes in economy. There were only a few seats reserved on this flight as of now. When we get closer to flight time I might change seats if we can get an entire row.
