I just received a piece of junk mail with "You're cordially Invited to an Informative Discussion About your Timeshare." It includes: meal, $50 cash, two promotional airline vouchers and two night hotel stay.

Clearly a pay-in-advance exit company. But sounds like it might be a good deal to just go and get the perks. This assumes that spouse does not need to attend as she won't :)

Anyone do one of these?

Cheers.

I would stay far away. The sales creatures will be just as pushy and unrelenting as the timeshare sales people.
Very likely. But I don't mind them in the least. I'm from New York. If they get aggressive, so much the better :)

Cheers.

If your spouse is on the ownership, then they will need to attend.

The food will likely be lousy, $50 will likely work out to be less than minimum wage for the time there + traveling to/from, you likely will find it hard to get any value out of the airline vouchers and hotel stay. What exactly is the appeal there?

We did this once. Though it was just for the meal. I did it more to see what it was all about and the video I made about it got quite a few views. It will likely be at some local establishment that has a room off to the side where they can corral everyone for a slide show and presentation. Then they will proceed to tell you all about the perils of owning timeshare. Someone will be planted there to agree with them and be vocal about their displeasure. They will name some law in Florida that you could have taken advantage of and how this is your last chance to do so in order to use that law to get out of the timeshare.

In the end, it won't matter if your spouse won't attend. No different than a timeshare sales pitch or owner update. They don't want you to use your spouse not being there as an excuse to get out easily.

It is probably similar to the junk voucher that Westgate gave us for a timeshare presentation. That was on top of the gift card. The voucher required you to put down a refundable deposit. Then put in a request for a bunch of dates and locations and then they would email you with what they were giving you. Mostly low rate 1-2 star motels. As noted pervasively, the vouchers are garbage.

The exit companies roaming the US putting on these presentations are scammers. Expect lies, scare tactics, guilt trips, and even more lies and it gets even worse once the presentation starts.

Well, for presentations at the timeshare, both attending is required. So, if they don't require it, this is different.

The vouchers are junk...

Is the meal and $50 worth your time?

Probably true. As for my time, I'm retired. And, yes, there are times when I'm truly doing so little that the entertainment value of this (and I would absolutely find it entertaining) could be worth it.

General consensus, though, seems to be that even for the vouchers alone it may not be worth it as they are likely less than advertised.

Cheers.

Have you inquired yet? The one we went to required all owners on the ownership to attend. I don't see how it is any different. They can't take any action to help you out of your ownership if one of the owners on the deed isn't there and they want you to make a decision that day. Same as a timeshare sales pitch.

Never mind. We're saying the same thing. I misread what you said earlier.
Cheers.

Agree that the voucher's are junk. We once attempted to use the airline vouchers and hotel vouchers for a trip. We’d turn in our dates and would receive an email telling us to pack our bags. Maybe a month before the dates we’d get another email telling us they couldn’t secure our reservations and to either choose again OR, accept a week at a lower quality timeshare resort in an overdeveloped location such as Orlando, but we had to pay for our own transportation.
The phone numbers in the vouchers lead to recorded messages but never a human. It took a LOT of effort to find a number to their real offices and speak with a human. In the end they tried to get me to select another date. I didn’t bite. I told them to tell me what dates they had available. In order to use the voucher we had to drive to an Omaha, NE to catch a flight to Las Vegas for a 3 night stay at the Lady Luck in Las Vegas. There was nothing from our hometown airport.
So forget the vouchers. The meal and the $50 is all that will be usable.
