Hello everyone, I hope you can help me. A little background: I am an Italian citizen living in Italy. In May 2018, I purchased 35,000 points from Bluegreen. Until 2023, I was always satisfied, but starting from 2024, when they significantly increased the maintenance fees, I refused to pay for the new year.
I wrote to Bluegreen and also called their Exit Department at 1.833.638.3948, where I was told I didn’t need to do anything. My contract was set to expire in October 2024. Today, however, I received a letter at my residence in Italy from Pinnacle Recovery, asking me to pay the full amount along with their fees and accrued interest.
Can you help me permanently resolve this unfortunate situation? I believe it is my right to cancel my ownership without paying anything. I just want to be free to travel to the USA as and when I please.

Thank you.

Gianluca

I think their exit department was honest with you. Do nothing, and if you are satisfied that they will keep whatever you have paid them, you're done. That collection company has simply acquired a list of all the non-paying owners and hope they can entice them to pay. They get whatever they collect- not BG. Even if your credit is dinged in the US, it will have zero effect on your being able to travel to the US, or frankly, your ability to make any purchase you want in the US.

Customs/immigration do NOT inquire about a visitor's credit situation when they come to thew USA.

Don't lose a minutes' sleep over this. Drop that letter from Pinnacle in the trash.

Dear Jim , Sorry for my persistence, but you tell me to throw away the letter from Pinnacle the debt collector. However, when I log into the BG website, I still see my debt for the maintenance fees from August 2024 to August 2025. I can no longer pay them online, but I have to call them. I had already written that I wanted to cancel my membership without paying. Now I’ve written to BG, stating there is an error and attaching the letter from Pinnacle.

What do you recommend I do? I don’t want my debt to increase year after year. I haven’t found anyone else who has experienced what is happening to me. Can you give me practical advice? Thank yo

Hello Gianluca,
You do not have a right to cancel this ownership without paying anything.
You can walk away from it if it is fully paid off but they will continue to hound you and send you collection letters for many years. Since you are a non US citizen ( I presume) I don’t believe this will affect your credit in Italy.

I don’t know why you think your ownership would expire in 2024? BG points are in perpetuity and do not have an expiration date.
What does have an expiration date is your yearly points; you either use them the first year or pay a fee to save them for use the following year. After that, you lose them.

So first, do you have a loan on your points or did you pay in cash or pay loan off already? If you have a loan with BG, they will continue to try and collect that debt. If it is paid off, you are in a better position.

BG exit charges 18 months of Maint Fee to get out of your ownership cleanly.

If you read thru this thread, you will see two people who gave their TS back to BG using the exit program, it really is simple.

It is up to you if you want to fill out the online form on the Exit website, but they won’t take it back with past due maint fees.

Hope this information helps. I have been a BG owner for 15 years.

Please see my post above.
MANY people have been in your situation,
However they will NOT take your TS back while you own money.
And you can’t “cancel” your contract; it’s not how it work.
Here are more threads about people getting out of their ownership.

and this super long one, sorry!

Dear Grayful,
Sorry I don’t have any loan . Today I typing on chat of BG. And the answer is this :
If you continue to not pay the maintenance, eventually, it would be terminated due to non payment. You would get termination letters in the mail once that process has started. It is still an active ownership at this time.

Well done !
Regards to all

Okay, I think you have your answer.
And I think you are getting off “easy” because BG won‘t chase you down in Italy. 🇮🇹
