Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some information on how to exchange points through interval international. I have 2500 DC points annually. I have 525 remaining that expire at the end of 2023 and the full 2500 in 2024. I am looking to travel somewhere in Europe next summer in either a studio or 1 bedroom unit. My questions are:

1. Am I allowed to deposit my 525 points that expire in 2023 in combination with my 2024 use year points to place an exchange request, or do I have to use exclusively 2024 points?

2. When is the best time to deposit the points?

3. Are there any rules / general guidelines for exchange requests? I am looking to go either the second or third week of August. How many options do you think I should include to be reasonably sure that I will get a match?

4. Bonus question: for those who have traveled to Spain, Portugal, France, etc - what was your favorite resort available on interval for exchange?

Thank you very much for your help and sorry if these are dumb questions.

1. Not sure, as I've never tried it yet. If someone doesn't answer here you might want to call MVC to find out.

2. For points, there isn't really a "best" time, since trade power doesn't change over time like it does with weeks.

3. There is a chart that tells you exactly how many points it will take for exchanges depending on unit size and TDI for the week you're reserving.

4. Keep in mind there aren't as many timeshares in Europe as there are in the US. The majority of the ones that do exist are typically not in the major cities most US tourists want to visit, they tend to be countryside locations. You'll see some locations in II in the cities that are never available as exchanges, only as cash Getaways. MVC does have some resorts in Europe (Spain, France), but not really in the major cities. There is one near Disneyland Paris, but still not IN the city, so a little bit of work/time for a commute if you want to see the city. Plus, you aren't allowed to use MVC points to exchange to MVC (or Vistana) resorts via II. You can only do that directly within Abound. Check the resort directory in II to see what might be in areas that interest you, and the resort profile will usually tell you if it's only available via Getaways. And again, if using MVC points in II disregard any MVC resorts as you won't be able to book that way.

For an II exchange or deposit with points, you need a minimum of 1000. You may need to talk with Owner Services to see if you can use a combination of use years to make up that 1000.

1)
You can’t deposit POINTS into II.
You can use them directly for a points exchange (request or manual) before they expire.
You can’t exchange into abound properties via II with abound points.

Or you can call MVC and have them convert the points into a week and deposit that into II.
You choose how many points you want to use based on the units size and season you want to deposit.
You can see the chart on the owners site under use points and then interval international.
1000 min as dioxide said to deposit a low season studio.
You can combine points from different years.
This is a week exchange so it is possible to exchange into a different season or larger unit (for a fee) based on availability.
Deposit is good for 2 years.
Still can’t exchange into abound.

2. Can’t- but if you are converting the points to a week to deposit you can wait until just before they expire, unless you want to get in a request.

3. You should request as far in advance as possible. A year is not too much, especially if you are looking for high season or a popular place/ one with not as many resorts.
You will be required to request at least 3 combo of dates/ resorts.
There is never a guarantee of getting your exchange. It depends on supply and demand and trading power- someone needs to deposit what you want and you have to be top of list to get it.

4. We enjoyed MVC Paris Disney, but you can’t exchange into abound properties via II with abound points.
Which brings me to my question- why not just book with your abound points on the owners site?
Do you want to try a different brand’s resorts?
Or are you worried about wasting the 525 points? There are other uses for them.

Thanks for the helpful reply. My understanding is with Interval in peak season, I can get a studio for 2250 points. It seems like the MVC places are considerably more expensive than that for their smallest unit size (e.g. Playa Andaluza, Marbella Beach). Also, these tend not to have availability. I am hoping that for 2250 points, I can get a trade into a nice (maybe not as nice as Marriott) resort in that part of Spain (e.g.). Does this make sense or am I misunderstanding how it works? Thanks for the help!

Check the II directory and do dummy searches before you expect to get availability at a non-MVC "nice" resort in Spain in the summer. You can do dummy searches in your II account against the Abound club points placeholder anytime. There is nothing there currently that I can see.
The Renaissance on Aruba is a much better choice, and is available using MVC club points, best to put a request in for this as it goes quickly. DVC Orlando inventory get releases 3-6 months ahead, Hyatt inventory gets released 3-4 months ahead. Westgate Smokey mountains gets great reviews and has availability through to the end of 2024.
Happy Hunting! Don't forget the TUG sightings forum if you want info on what is available in II.

“Can” is the operative word.
That’s how much it would cost IF it were available.
I agree with hindsite that you should have a look at the II directory and that you can do dummy searches with your points (or a week).
But a high season unit is not likely to be there for the taking for you to see with a search even several months in advance, you will likely need to request and hope someone deposits what you want and you get it.
If you book directly with points on opening day you have a better chance to secure your unit, even though it will cost more points.
And if you exchange with a week you are not limited in unit size or season.
