Hi All, considering a trip to C.R. and I wonder if anyone has any recent experience with timeshares there (any location.) Reviews seem old and not particularly positive...

When we go to Costa Rica we stay at Pueblo Real near Quepos, for up to 4 weeks at a time. It is well located, spacious and the staff are terrifc.

How do you get there? Fly into San Jose and rent a car?

We fly into the San Jose airport which is actually located in Alajuela. We stay overnight at a wonderful B&B, Pura Vida Hotel. Sometimes we rent a car in Alajuela and drive to Quepos, other times we have used the resort's shuttle and rented a car for some time in Quepos in order to go to the places we want to see before we just hang out at the resort.

Most of the tours and activities will pick you up and drop you off at the resort. The resort also has a groceries shuttle that leaves at 11 the morning after check-in so you can stock up for the week. Taxis are quite inexpensive.

I love Costa Rica but haven't found ant decent properties in Interval. I don't know about RCI.

The Sanctuary through II is VERY secluded but lovely. (Make sure you get the single building villas.) We had a marvelous time. Day tripped to Tamarindo and Nosaro. We would go back in a minute, but I have a work trip to CR in Feb! Staying at the Westin. :D

It's heresy to suggest this on TUG, but you can find gorgeous properties in CR on vrbo.com at good prices - driving's easy so don't be afraid to have a DIY vacation! And if you have MR points the JW in Guanacaste is a gem.

Thanks

Thank you! I will look in to all your suggestions. While I know many who have visited CR, most have gone on hotel/package deals. Nice to know that both II and RCI can be used as trades. Occasionally the driving descriptions are daunting, i.e. steep, winding mountainous roads, narrow, etc etc
