I have a II confirmation for June 2012 for The Whaler, Maui. My question is whether anyone has experience with getting the unit number on your confirmation. Mine shows 901..which should be end unit with wrap around lanai oceanfront. Isn't The Whaler fixed unit fixed time...or just fixed time? Should I allow my friends to be excited about the unit location or will they be assigned another at check in?

Wow, are you lucky -- that is the best timeshare unit in the complex! We own there and it is a fixed unit, fixed timeframe. Be aware the fixed timeframe doesn't necessarily start on a weekend. There will be parking fees charged to a non-owner.

May I ask how you got such a premium unit? The whole development just went thru/going thru a major renovation and the bathrooms will be finished by June 2012.

BTW, of course you know it is against II rules to rent out an exchange, right:ignore:

One of my II confirmations states:

"The host unit may vary from the one indicated."

Personally, I'd be cautiously optimistic, it should be what's been deposited, but if an owner kicks up a fuss, who knows?

As well, personally, I'd be confirming a few weeks ahead with the resort directly.

But sounds like you should perhaps buy a lottery ticket!! Sounds like a great unit.

Hi Cathy!

I changed my post to say friends. I just didn't want to imply that it was my exchange. Good grief, I wish it was!

I handle a II account for some friends who don't understand how to trade their timeshare. When the confirmation came in-I was excited and surprised that it was The Whaler. I have no idea how they managed to match the property let alone that particular unit except that is what the confirmation says. So, no, of course I'm not renting it. It's their exchange with their timeshare-I just pushed the buttons for them.

It's a Wed to Wed which should actually help with airfare...and they are school district employees with summer off-so that odd check in/check out day is not a problem. They will be coming from Calif.

If it's fixed unit and that was the unit deposited..although why on earth would you do that and not rent it yourself is beyond me...then I'd say they are likely to get it. I just didn't want to get them excited about something that might not happen...but if it does then WOW :cheer: I can't believe it..I'm quite jealous myself. It was just pure dumb luck.

That's exactly what I plan to tell them...that it "should" work this way and we will try to make it happen in just that manner..but that it may not work out. The good thing is..it's a fabulous location/property anyway. I wouldn't be disappointed with any unit at The Whaler.

I'm going to look and see how long we had the request in for...it doesn't seem like it was that long. Maybe a couple months....the funny thing is-it is WAY more exciting to me than it is to them right now. As I said, they don't understand the nuances of exchanging and which properties are better than others. They have never even been to Maui..and this is what they pull.

Actually the views vary greatly. In Tower 1 with a floor lower than fifth, you look into the windows of a very close hotel next door. If your unit is toward the hills, water views are skimpy. Their unit is absolutely gorgeous. I am gambling they will get that unit. The gal who handles the timeshare part, to my knowledge and we have owned there 20 yrs -- doesn't juggle units.

BTW, tell your friends there is an onsite spa and beauty parlor as well as a small exercise gym.

You mention renting it -- not a good clilmate this year. We have ours up for rent, June/July 4, with no takers yet. It's our first time to rent it. We're heading to Canada just 2 weeks later -- so that's why, too close.

Well spoken! I remember the thrill of getting a Feb week at Marriott's Phuket -- it was the most beautiful timeshare we have ever been.

just got an exchange into the whaler for march 2014. the II confirmation says unit 302, will that have a view? other posts say that lower floors look into an adjacent resort. is there a resort map somewhere that shows the unit locations?

This appears to be your unit. You are end unit with wrap around lanai. LUCKY YOU!!

Yes! Such a beautiful view too-they sent me a pic and I use it as the screen saver on my phone :)

I do remember calling The Whaler to ask if they were going to receive the unit on the confirmation...and the person I spoke to told me they don't really switch units around. They have quirky check in days because they are fixed week units so you get what is deposited. My friends had Wed to Wed.
