I just had an exchange with the moderator over on the official WorldMark site about Endless Vacations, and thought I would share it. I know this is probably old news to those who follow Wyndham closely, but I did not know this and thought I would share the info.
The original poster asked this question:
www.wyndham-vacations.com Has rooms available in november for anybody, member or not for rent and many other condos by wyndham, worldmark the club.1 bedroom at Birch Bay in June, Schooner Landing, Seaside many more. Does anybody know how this can happen?
Which brought this response from the WorldMark moderator (who is a Wyndham employee BTW):
One of the benefits WorldMark Owners have as an option to enhance their vacation option alternatives is to be a member of RCI, the industry’s largest timeshare exchange provider. Many WorldMark Owners take advantage of this option and typically WorldMark Owners exchange approximately 12,000 weeks annually through RCI using our Confirm First Program. To facilitate these exchanges, WorldMark deposits the equivalent number of weeks into RCI to pay for these transactions. In addition, the Owner pays an exchange fee to RCI. How RCI then utilizes these weeks within their network is completely up to them. Whether RCI uses these weeks for an exchange guest or for a rental guest is their prerogative. The weeks you are seeing being “rented” on this web site are some of the WorldMark weeks deposited into RCI to support the WorldMark Owner exchange activity.
I responded back with something along the lines of:
Extra Vacations is a Wyndham program, and should not obtain rental inventory directly from RCI. RCI's rental inventory is listed as Endless Holidays on their website.
Wyndham censors posts over on the official WorldMark site, which is why wmowners.com was created. So I cannot give you the exact post. Here is the PM I got today.
I wanted to let you know that I will be removing your recent post due to the fact Endless Vacation Rentals is under Group RCI. What follows is a portion of the press release from August, 2007 addressing this launch of Endless Vacation Rentals. I have also included the link to the entire release.
PARSIPPANY, NJ – (August 14, 2007) – Group RCI, one of the Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN) family of companies, today announced the launch of Endless Vacation Rentals, a global one-stop shop for travelers to rent a wide variety of vacation rental accommodations at available properties worldwide. With the introduction of Endless Vacation Rentals, the landscape of the global vacation rental industry will be changing for the better. Travelers who book with Endless Vacation Rentals will now have access to one of the industry’s largest collections of global vacation rental accommodations and will be able to complete a rental transaction as quickly and easily as booking a traditional hotel room.

I know this is old news to some, but I did not realize that RCI was directly providing inventory to Wyndham in such a fashion. So I thought I would pass that on - in case someone had the same impression as I did.
