I just visited Oceanwatch and really liked it. I told them that I needed some time to think about it, and they offered me what's called an "Encore" package: a 6-night stay for a reduced rate, even for the platinum season, so I took the bait. There's another 60-minute presentation required for it.

I'm looking at the resale market, and I'm seeing some deals...

Here's the catch: When I signed up for the Encore package, I stated that I wasn't an owner, which I'm not. It states that if I "buy a timeshare interest, I get that first-day incentive instead of the 6-night stay". Since there's no first-day incentive associated with a resale purchase, are they only talking about buying a timeshare interest directly from the developer, or will they yank my promo package from me if my name shows up on a deed?

Has anyone looked into this? If I pick up a cheap silver week, do I lose my 6-night stay? Would I get a refund, as the cost of the Encore package is not insignificant?

I'm sure that this would apply to anyone who's pre-purchased a promo package and unexpectedly purchased a resale unit prior to check-in.

You paid for your six night stay and you'll get it even if you buy resale.

It states that if I "buy a timeshare interest, I get that first-day incentive instead of the 6-night stay".
That means if you buy a TS from Marriott ( not resale), they will give you hotel reward points (the first-day incentive) instead of the package.

Remember, that with the encore package, you have to sit thru the sales pitch again.

Excellent point.

My wife thinks (thinks, heck she knows) that I'm nuts, but I find the "fun with numbers" presentation to be strangely entertaining.

Seriously though, thanks for the info.
