I'm looking for information about the Embarc program, which is now owned by Hilton Grand Vacations (HGV). Specifically, I need to find a current point chart showing:

  • Point values for Embarc resorts
  • Which resorts are currently available in the program
I'm considering purchasing Embarc points to get better access to the HGV property in Whistler, where we've stayed the past few years through exchanges. However, I can't find up-to-date information. My searches lead to the HGV website, but details about Embarc are limited there.

Does anyone know where I can find a current Embarc point chart to help me evaluate whether purchasing points would be worthwhile?

Thanks for any help!

I assume that you know that many (6 of 9) former Embarc resorts have been rebranded as HGVC, but Legacy HGVC owners can't exchange into any Embarc or former Embarc resort. They are two completely different TS systems. Max owners will be able to book Embarc resorts, but availability will be very limited since it is an exchange.

I looked into it too, and decided against it, due to very high maintenance fees. It's 15,200 points to book a 2br peak ski week like during February or March break (if I read the chart correctly), which is about CAD $3,200 per week in maintenance fees. This alone is a good reason to avoid purchasing Embarc points to book Whistler, even ignoring the availability problem. Near zero resale value is also very telling.

A couple of us have been able to trade into Whistler during ski season (Feb but we avoid holidays) next year via DeX.

Is DeX available to legacy HGVC resale owners?

If you own certainly deeded HGVC properties such as Craigendarroch Lodges, Bay Club, Plantation Beach Club at IRP and one of the Marco Beach resorts (I think Charter Club) you can trade in DEX. I enrolled my CL and am purchasing currently a second CL just for DEX trading. I think that any HVC/DRI "deeded" resale ownership can also use DEX.

When you trade in DEX EU, are the fees in Euro?

One can possibly also acquire a free resale DRI property to exchange in DEX. I've seen Polo Towers and Sedona Summit mentioned in the past. I am sure there are others. One would just want to avoid DRI collections at those won't work in DEX when resale.

I calculate 11,600 points to book during peak season. What I didn't understand is that I saw two different 2BR point charts slightly different. It looks like 15,200 pts is Holiday season. So 11,600 pts would be $2447.60 CAD or $1821.20 USD. For comparison with DEX, I am exchanging 3BR CL (MFs $1355.61 USD) plus DEX exchange fee of £165 ($220). Better would be 2BR CL tier 6 trader with MFs at $1175.58.

Near zero resale is just fine when you paid near zero to get it AND it"s easy to dispose of (and costs nothing) when you don't want it any more. There's no added fees for anything with Embarc except cancelling ($25) and transferring points to another member ($35). DEX is now free for all Embarc members as well. You pay your 16¢usd per point and nothing else is added on to use your points. Free booking, free banking, free borrowing, free guest certificates, etc. I agree that availabilty is difficult in peak season. The Whistler resort has been completely renovated, inside and out with Tremblant and Sandestin next in line. There's lots worse RTU timeshares and ours is easy to use and easy to divest. I could make a list.of negatives about any system out there including HGVC outside of Embarc but I won't. I just talk about what I know - and there are many positives about Embarc.

OP may not need a full week in a 2br, owning Embarc points has flexibility. I know I couldn't ski for a week :)

I agree, owning in the TS system would be much more flexible. I don't have an issue with trading into Whistler or any great ski location for a week. I can easily ski for the week or longer.

I have been researching the pros/cons of taking over an ownership. I found the point charts last month through Google search. Feel free to add to sticky.
