My wife and I just got back from the Elara and absolutely loved the property.

We noticed a no food or drink sign at the pool and it seemed they were enforcing the policy when stopping by the towel stand.

We were thinking of going back as a family and were wondering if they made exceptions for elite owners. The reason I ask is that they had a separate area setup for "Elite owners" with no charge cabana's and small fridges.

Just a quick question about the pool area. Do you remember how deep it was at its deepest point? I like to have water up to my shoulders when I do my aqua exercises so I need about five feet. Are you allowed water bottles at the pool?

3.5 feet max all the way around

do they mean no drinks near the pool or in the pool?

I'm really confused by that, too. Whoever heard of a resort pool that didn't allow food and drinks? That's outrageous.

The mention of the Elite area that does allow food and drinks makes me wonder if they are going to start doing this weirdness to upsell. Initially when I read that, I was happy to see that I finally get something for being elite. If they are just doing that to make everyone else a second class citizen, I am going to be very upset.

Staying at the Flamingo in August. If I have any spare time, I'll go have a look at Elara and see if they will tell me what they are thinking. This is actually tempting me to change my reservation to Elara just so I can find out what is going on.

I think they are talking about no outside food/drink -- they want you to buy it there.

Okay. That is much more reasonable. We all need to make a buck.

I disagree. I don't flaunt it, but a TS (too me) is like a condo. If I want over priced, watered down drinks, I will go to the hotel next door to the party pool.

Every TS I have stayed at has allowed (perhaps turned a blind eye) to BYOB. HGVC strip lets you, purchased in store or otherwise, DVC, Marriott and Westin Lagunamar had no problems and Westin Keirland allowed it, just had to be in their plastic cups...

It seems like some of the more upscale places are the ones that have this policy, and I don't care for it either. While I might understand why they don't want huge 40-quart coolers wheeling in around the pool, but a no outside beverages policy can really add a lot of expense to a vacationing family just wanting to hang by the pool (in a place where their MFs pay for the upkeep, no less!).

does the pool really close at 5pm. I was hoping it would be open later but the facebook page shows it closing then.
