Hello! Going a bit in off season, October. Is bike riding safe? When staying at timeshare where do you store bike, if I bring an electric bike, can I take it up to room? I am wondering if I have to worry that someone may take it. I will have a standard lock.

If we decide not to take our bikes, can we rent easily in off - season there?

I appreciate any input from bikers out there, that have biked and stayed at Edisto Island. I did try searching first, and did not see much information.

Thanks!

It has been years since we have been there, but when we were there last, we rented bikes from the resort (non-electric) for $15 each for the week. We didn't have locks but the bikes were there each time we wanted them. And...the resort delivered them to us at the unit. It might not hurt to give the resort a call to verify.

I've certainly brought my non-electric bike up to the room, so as long as you can carry it up the stairs you can take it up to the room. I was there in October 2022 for a triathlon. Biking there seems pretty safe and quite common. I've seen road cyclists there during other (non-triathlon) vacations, as well as many recreational cyclists on side roads and paths.

Does the resort have bike rack to secure your bike?

An electric bike; suggestion only I would take up to my villa for safe keeping.

We have brought our bikes to Ocean Ridge for years and never worried about someone stealing them. We typically lock them together in the parking area under the unit with a cable lock. If staying in a house in OR, we do not lock them at all! ;-) Will add that our bikes are nothing fancy, but an electric bike may be different story. If bringing them inside, be aware that most units have entry stairs. Also, bike paths are plentiful, so riding is pretty safe.

We rented from a small store near the only grocery store in town. They gave us locks so we locked them in an area behind where we parked.
We have always had entry stairs - quite a few since some units are on stilts.
The paths and streets on the island are safe and not much traffic even in high season.
But if you want a ride more than a couple miles without repeating you will have to go across the causeway which has traffic going 50+ mph and no bike lane. Once you cross that 1/2 mile stretch, there are side roads to explore to get more mileage.
