In early August, I used a Marriott studio to trade into Newport Coast, check in Sat Aug 17. (Flexchange)
Subsequently, I was able to trade into Newport Coast, check-in Sun Aug 18 (better check in date), using a soon-to-expire week at my other timeshare.

To save & reuse the Marriott Studio, I did a full-free standard retrade on Fri Aug 16 into Westin Nanea, check-in Sat Sep 14.
I added e-plus. The e-plus can currently see out to 11/12/2024.

Today is the last day to use e-plus1 (15 days from check-in) to move the reservation.

I am planning to exchange into either:
Studio at Marriott Desert Springs II MPD for Monday 11/11/2024
or
Studio at Tahiti Resort TII for Tuesday 11/12/2024

Either one is a placeholder exchange to move the e-plus date forward. I am staying with the Studio size at this time to avoid the upsize fee until we find a resort/week we actually want.

Is there any reason to stay with the Marriott, or should I go for the latest possible date at the Tahiti?

I'd go with the latest possible date. Trade power is supposed to be determined by the trade power of your original deposit, not what you trade into.

No reason to stay. Previous threads I've read state the trade power is based on your Marriott studio; though some have reported less trade power on retrades--but that happens regardless of the resort you trade into. And you're not charged extra for going to a non-Marriott on the retrade. It's more a matter of how much that extra day means to you.

I don't think the one day will matter that much, will it?

Thank you all.

I haven't had to retrade since COVID and wasn't clear on whether exchanging to a non-Marriott would cost a higher trade fee.

When an extra day or two does matter, the Soleil managed resorts in Las Vegas have check-in every day of the week
Tahiti Resort TII
Tahiti Village TVV
Club de Soleil CLL

How much was the full fee retrade? If it was $164 that’s the Marriott to Marriott discount and you would have to then pay the fee difference to trade into a non-Marriott.

But if you paid the full $229 trade fee already then I see no reason you couldn’t trade to a non-Marriott resort for the placeholder.

Once you add eplus you don’t pay any extra fees to trade into a non-Marriott.

The full retrade was $164. I added e-plus for $89.
I have used e-plus1 to exchange into a non-Mariott for the latest possible date, 1/10/25.
