Our Christmas trip will be the first time we have used our new timeshare! Yay :) Is there any type of fee due as you checkout? I'm thinking that there would not be any type of fee due (unless you have asked for extra services or charged items to your room). Thanks in advance!

No fee's other than what you allow charged to your room. Example's would be parking of valet fee's at some resorts. At HHV, there is a fee for self parking or valet. At HGVC LV Strip self parking was free last time we were there or you could pay a daily fee to have your car valet parked. At the LV Strip location you can charge spa services or deli/restaurant/bar charges added to your room bill.

Slightly off-topic... I recently used HHonors points to stay at a Hampton Inn. Oddly, they wouldn't look at my CC, saying, "There's no minibars, so unless you use the phone for a LD call, there's no need for a CC."
-- I thought it was an odd throw-back to a time of trust, but then, it was St. Augustine.

Yes, at West 57th Street by Hilton Club, if you stay fewer than 4 nights. You will pay an $85 cleaning fee (plus tax).

I may not be remembering right, but I would say the Hawaii tourism tax is more like $7/night.

Checked out of 10 nights at the Grand Waikikian with no charge. Not sure what happened to the tourism tax, but I wasn't going to object.

May be going away

When we had our tour (and bought) last Saturday, the salesman talked about that fee, and said that it was going away. Remember, this is from a TS salesman, and it's not in writing, hence the use of may in my title.

He said they had a grand opening early this month, and mucky-mucks were around who got an earful about the fee. Supposedly, even they didn't like it.

Again, just a rumor from a TS salesman. Take it for what it's worth.

Cheers.

One of the best parts of owning a timeshare. No bill on the last day. (most times).:D

Just to be clear though, MOST timeshares will ask for a credit card imprint to cover any charges either made by your or excessive cleaning or damage you might do.

If you exchange in, there may be additional charges for cleaning, resort tax, energy or a host of other "minimum daily" charges. These are usually spelled out on the exchange page prior to booking.

I've not been charged by HGVC for anything in our typical stays except for parking when at Hilton Hawian Village (HHV), and I've stayed at six different HGVC's so far.

The TOT, Transiant Occupancy Tax is applicable at any Hawaiian resort, not just HHV.

It varies by unit size and length of stay. A week in a 1 BR is about the $35-40 range. But if you have larger or smaller unit, or a shorter stay, the charge will be different.

Is that only true of timeshare stays and not, for example, stays on hotel points? We stayed at two Starwood locations in Maui recently, both on starpoints, and there was nothing due on either of them, except for the incidentals that we charged. If due, perhaps some places cover them on award stays?

Cheers.
