This is an interesting article. On our recent trip to Kauai, we flew there on Alaska and back on Hawaiian. On Alaska we had premium seats, and on Hawaiian we had first class seats. Interestingly, Alaska was very generous with drink service and Hawaiian only offered 2 drinks in first class. Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining, I usually have only 2 glasses of wine or beer on a flight, it was just interesting comparing the service.

First class service on Alaska lately (for us) is not what we used to experience. We used to get great service on Alaska, and the last time we had dishes piling up on our trays that weren't picked up for over an hour after we had eaten. Rick finally took his up to the flight attendants to take because he was working on floor plans. They also didn't refill our diet coke but once. It was odd for Alaska.

United has better service. We also always really enjoyed Hawaiian Air. I hope the service continues to be stellar with them. We do not drink alcohol, so that is not an issue for us.

We've often flown first class on Alaska, Delta, and Hawaiian for our trips to Kauai. Hawaiian has always been the best, Delta pretty good, and Alaska below average. We keep flying Alaska because they offer the lowest fares if we fly through San Diego to Kauai.

Alaska has been messing with the direct flights from San Diego to Kauai. When we went in August, the Alaska flight was a red eye which is a nope for us. We had to fly home on Hawaiian.

Alaska is famous for changing flight times without notification. I have to check regularly. We once had a Delta flight to San Diego and a non-stop Alaskan flight to Kauai. Alaska canceled the flight, and put us on a flight that stopped over in Seattle. Fortunately, I was able to change the Delta flight to go to Seattle, and got an non-stop Alaska flight from there to Kauai.

Our flight from Maui to SFO on Alaska changed from 4 PM to 10:35 AM. I can cancel it, but no good deals. I am going to keep trying to find something before I accept the change. Driving from Ka'anapali to the airport could require a very early departure from Westin.

Our flight next month from San Diego to Lihue changed from 11:00 AM to 8:30 AM. We'll have to get up by 6 AM, and we are definitely not morning people.

BTW, if the time changes by that much, they have to give the new flight to you at the same price. They may be able to give you an Hawaiian flight for the same price since they're now the same company. Call them to ask.

We're flying "off course" here. OP wants feedback on drinks policy between AS and HA.

The article seemed to pretty much say "everyone tries to keep you more or less to one drink per hour."

As someone who has already met (and probably exceeded) his lifetime quota for booze, I can tell you that someone intent on getting their drink on is not relying on the airline to do it. That's what the pre-departure lounge visit is for.

I was just on a Hawaiian Air flight last week and upgrade to 1st class from OAK to Kauai with a stop in OGG. My drink was server with a +1 bottle so after the 2nd request I was satisfied. No need for any further requests!

To get back on topic, on most Hawaiian flights to Hawaii, first class gets a mai tai before takeoff. However, they're about the same strength as the mai tais at a luau or sunset sail.
