What's your favorite one, not including Branson Landing?

The Farmhouse

The Shack

Branson Cafe

Other?

Of the downtown restaurants we've eaten at Clockers, the Farmhouse and Branson Cafe. Non are all that great IMO but the Farmhouse would be our favorite of the bunch for lunch or dinner and Branson Cafe for breakfast. Neigther of us was all that impressed with Clockers. For that matter we weren't all that impessed with our last visits to either Branson Cafe or the Farmhouse.

I meant to list Clockers, too.

Yeah, none of them are what you would call impressive, but that seems to be by design.

We now have impressive on the other side of the tracks, literally.

BTW, Dimitri's, the floating restaurant at the bottom of the main drag, has been moved over to Bass Pro, and rebuilt. It looked like it is open.

That's good. We ate there once and it wasn't bad. Not as good as the greek restaurants in Chicago but we enjoyed it. Perhaps we'll have dinner there again in the near future.

I really haven't been all that impressed with the restaurants on the other side of the tracks (Branson Landing) either. Of course we haven't tried them all but we have eaten at the Irish Pub (not very good and won't be heading back) Garfields (OK but nothing to write home about) and Joe's Crab Shack (crowded, long waits and ditto Garfields). I've read not so great reviews about the Italian restaurant that's gone in so I'm not excited about giving them a shot.

Branson is the one vacation destination where we generally stick with the chain restaurants rather than trying something unique to the locality. You'd think that there would be a really good home cookin' restaurant with some really good fried chicken or chicken fried steak but I haven't found it yet.

Oh, no Dimitris is not Dimitris any more. It is a Bass Pro restaurant.

In the Landing, we like Famous Dave's, of course, and Cantina Laredo.

Talking about Greek Restaurants, the very first time we were in Branson several years back we were driving around and came across this Greek Restaurant called Papouli's on E State Hwy248 in Reeds Springs. Since I am Greek we decided to try it. It's a small place operated by a elderly Greek couple. A few years ago the owner had a stroke and cut the hours back to open only for dinner and only weekends. Everytime we have been there it is always packed and hard to get in without reservations unless you get there early.

Well that's to bad. The one meal we had at Dimitri's was very good by Branson standards. Eating on the dock on the lake was interesting but nothing to write home about. Perhaps we'll try the new Bass Pro restaurant to see what it's like.

Is Cantina Laredo on the Landing? I'm assuming it's Mexican or TexMex. If so sounds like something for us to try.

Papouli's is still there, off the beaten track since HWY 13 now by-passes Reeds Springs. As little activity as we see there, I figured it was a place where the mob laundered money, or something. :D

Yeah, Cantina Laredo is Mexican, in the center of BL, right next to the fire and fountain show. There's quite a wait for p[ation seating if the weather is nice, but you can see the fire show through the windows.

We ate there a couple weeks ago with a TUG couple who has now moved here.

When we were there a few years ago we ate at Landry,s. They had a lunch special which we enjoyed and then had a small evening meal in the unit.

Last time we were there, Landry's was on 76 and not downtown or at Branson Landing. Have they moved?

I'm not to worried about the fire/water show. Every time we've been there it's been the same worn out songs and show. Until they put a larger variety of songs/shows in I'm about done with that attraction. There's only so many times one can stomach Rocky Mountain Way by Joe Walsh.

I was in direct sales for a few years after Moo U. Same presentation three times a day, six days a week.

I had to keep reminding myself that those I was presenting to had not heard/seen it before.

Perhaps BL does not anticipate anyone visiting more than once. :D

We thought Mickey Gilleys cafe next to his theater was good. We thought the stage door buffet at the Lawrence Welk resort where Mel Tillis performs was a good value. The Olive Garden was one of our best meals. IHOP was, well, IHOP - good breakfast food.

I agree with the majority who say they haven't found any "wow" places to eat in Branson.

I know you asked about downtown, but, very close to Branson Mills is a shopping area that has a movie theater. Next to the theater is a place with a name like "garden tea room". It had very good sandwiches and salads. I am not talking about finger food. Really large sandwiches.
