Dominican Republic Airport STI vs POP travel to resort

We are staying in the Puerta Plata are in the Dominican Republic next spring. POP airport to resort is about a 30 minute drive and STI to resort is about 1 Hr 40 Min drive. But a flight into STI is about a third less expensive. Any idea how much the transportation from STI to Puerta Plata would be? Has any one else gone this route instead of flying into POP?
