Does Wayne Newton still put on a good show?

We will be in Las Vegas in 2 1/2 weeks with my Dad and Step mother. I thought they would enjoy seeing Wayne Newton so I got tickets to his show. My brother saw him several years ago and said he put on a very good show. Has anyone seen his show lately? Still good?

We may also do the mini Hoover Dam bus tour. Any one tour company better than another? any suggestions? We have booked one other show so far, 'O'. Any other inexpensive must do's while in Vegas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I just want to say that I have a great deal of respect for Wayne Newton who replaced Bob Hope as Honorary President of the USO and spends hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars in support. I would go seem him just for that.

Wayne Newton puts on a great show when performing here on Long Island. Usually to a sold out audience. Only problem is that the ticket prices are getting very high.

Wayne Newton is a terrific entertainer - a real professional. Over the years I have seen him perform several times. While he still puts on an entertaining show, sadly his voice is shot. I saw him perform a few months ago and it was almost painful to listen to him. He uses his backup singers to cover for his voice in many cases. That said, overall we still enjoyed the show as the mix of comedy and watching him play several musical instruments was fun.

I saw Wayne Newton at a benefit about six or eight months ago. He's still very personable, but he can't sing worth beans. He loves performing, and evidentally isn't aware of his problem, or chooses to ignore it. He'd be much better running a "showcase" for new performers, a variety show, etc. This is much like what he has done for USO...

Boggie, I'll bet your group would enjoy seeing the Clint Holmes show at Harrah's. His voice is great and he has a wonderful band and other singers, too. It's one of my favorite shows.

If you have a rental car drive west on Charleston to Red Rock Canyon, continue on this road and it will turn into Blue Diamond Rd that leads back to the strip south of the Outlet Mall. Red Rock a quite scenic

Another scenic trip is to the Valley of Fire State ParK NE of Vegas towards Overton.

I just returned from Vegas and did not see the Wayne Newton show, so have no input there. However, we did see three GREAT shows: The Blue Men, Celine Dion and Cirque du Soleil Mystere. We enjoyed all shows, but tickets were very expensive! Some of the little books of coupons you get in Vegas has 2 for 1 ticket deals, but not on the big shows. Be prepared for hot weather. It hit 95 last week and is supposed to be up around 97 this week. Yes, it is a dry heat, but it is still hot!

It wasn't *that* hot last week...heck, its only early May.

To save some money on shows, try pre-planning and purchasing tickets via http://www.goldstarevents.com . They have Hairspray, Momma Mia, and a half dozen or more "lesser shows." Tickets are generally close to 50% off, and you don't have to hope and wait in line for them.

Gordie Brown is having a showroom built for him at the Venetian, and should be there by August.

Earl Turner is performing on Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun at Palace Station. General Admission purchased at the door is <$40. Great show, lots of energy (old tyme "R & B" show), personality driven.

If you are doing the Charleston/Red Rock/Blue Diamond Loop, which I don't recommend, be extremely careful on Blue Diamond. Its one of the, if not the, deadliest road in southern Clark County. There are many new houses and a lot of construction around Blue Diamond and Durango. The speed limit is now 45mph (recently lowered). There are many head-on accidents and failure to yield accidents with people who got tired of waiting for cross traffic to clear. Its a case of the road not keeping up with the population growth. It will be several years before a total remedy is in place, although they are working on a signal at Durango/Blue Diamond...

If you *do* go that way, check out the Bass Pro Shop on Blue Diamond at the Silverton Casino.
