I’m executive and have lifetime gold (Platinum elite now) as a condition of one of my direct purchases but get confused if they are separate statuses not automatically guaranteed? As at some point I would like to get to presidential (only 625 points off), but then wonder does this automatically give me higher tier in Bonvoy or something to be negotiated at the time of purchasing?

The better route to Presidential [thus Titanium-Elite] would be to cancel your direct purchase [if you still can] and add 625-Points/Week to your direct purchase.
Marriott only permits a minimum purchase increment which is usually 1500-DCP forcing you to spend about $15K at a minimum when you could do it for much less ~$3K if you attached a hybrid purchase week that only added ~625 points.

Just a small reminder that nothing prevents Marriott for changing status in future. So while you might get lifetime status, no guarantee that status will still mean the same thing in the future as Marriott degraded Gold status even before the merger.
If you still want to do it, and can't cancel like microze suggested, remember that resale points after the junk fee are the same as any other point so you could buy 1000 points at $2 or less (or $5 net after junk fees)

Actually there's no guarantee that the status priority will continue by way of MVC anyway. The sales people describe it as lifetime but there is nothing stating that.

Yes, “Lifetime” is misleading in describing the MVC Owner benefit of Bonvoy elite status.
Some sales folk might describe it as such, but MVC corporate never do.
The benefit only lasts for as long as the Owner retains the required qualifying level and for example does not sell points or enrolled weeks which would cause them to fall below that qualifying level.
MVC could also change or withdraw the benefit totally, although the latter is unlikely.
Having said that, whilst the status earned through hotel stays... etc really is Lifetime, Marriott could always close the Bonvoy loyalty programme totally, although again that is very unlikely.

Yeah, its more likely they will just change the name to something even more nonsensical than Bonvoy. ;-)

I think it will continue for the foreseeable future but to think it's permanent would be unrealistic IMO. I also think it unrealistic to assume it'll be beneficial down the road even if it does continue. Assuming the worst and hoping for the best is always a good stance when it comes to timeshares and rewards programs.
