I did this last year when we moved. We needed a hand truck. It wasn't on sale but we already had the mailer showing it $20 off starting a few days later. Problem was we needed it NOW. I bought it at full price then went back and had them adjust the price and refund the $20 after it was on sale.
Actually, if it was a Costco.com purchase, it's easier for it to be price adjusted online. There is even a link from the Costco website. Most warehouses will send you back to do it online. Push comes to shove, you can return the item in the local warehouse, and buy it again at the lower price, but that's a hassle.
