Does “Request First” mess up my place in line for room preference if it is canceled/unfulfilled?

I have an EOY 2BR in Ko Olina (ocean view penthouse) that I split so my brother could have the 1BR and I am taking the Studio for a different time of year. I made reservations for each week a year in advance. I was hoping to exchange my studio for a 1BR so I placed a “request first” with Interval back in January. Nothing better came along so I canceled the Interval request in Sept and I was able to reload the reservation back into my BonVoy account. Today I was looking at my weeks transactions in my MVC account and the reservation placement date shows as Sept, not January but the reservation number has never changed. I called Ko Olina to ask if this reset my date on their end for room placement requests. The woman I spoke with wasn’t sure and she said to call 3 weeks ahead of our res because that’s when more information would be available for them to see.
If this did knock us down in line I don’t think I’d ever do request first again using my Hawaii week.
Just curious if anyone else has had a similar situation?

Not sure if anyone would have any definitive answer to this. Even if told something by rooms control what they say always must be taken with a grain of salt.

True. My vaca is end of Jan so I’ll let you know how it goes after I talk to pre-arrivals and what I ultimately end up with. I’m not super picky and don’t mind any of the 3 buildings but just want to avoid some of studio rooms in the center bend part of the N’aia tower. The studio balconies are recessed in and a few ocean view rooms are only that if you lean over the balcony and look left.

It shouldn't make any difference. Most resorts don't use reservation date anyway though the HI resorts have always been a little off kilter with room assignments. I don't think there's any way to be sure. I'd call about 2-3 weeks out and make the request you prefer. At that time mention that it was actually reserved earlier and give them a time frame in case they think it matters.

I thought only Maui Ocean Club (and the Vistana resorts) used timestamp as one of the items for room assignments. I haven't heard of that being done at Ko'Olina.
I’ll ask when I call ahead. I’m probably assuming it was all MVCs that kept track of owner reservations just from things I’ve read here on TUG.

Marbella Beach Resort is also known to use timestamp.
