Do you think a renter can make changes to your account?

With just your name and address. My new rental got me to wondering. I know they use our phone number to pull up our account information. I recall they ask for your full address but nothing else. What do you think? Do they check your caller id?

Yes - just like they ask for you name, address, phone number and email address before they discuss a VOI with you. A potential renter could find this out via a Rental Contract (for example).

DeniseM had a situation where the renter called the resort directly and made a change - unacceptable - and hopefully a single incidence.

Thank you for this good advice - I will be sure to call in the next few days and add a password.

Since I don't know what a VOI is, I REALLY wouldn't want anyone messing with mine :whoopie:

THATS WHY I ALSO STARTED THE STARWOOD ACRONYM LIST!!!! :annoyed: :D :D

VOI = Vacation Ownership Interval (aka a TS week) - what you actually own by contract

I will call tomorrow and put in a password.

I just got off the phone with Starwood to request that a possword be placed on my account.

They told me a request like this had to be made via fax. Has anyone else had to send the request by fax, or have owners been successful making the request by telephone?

Password problems

I just called Starwood again to password protect my account.....

This time the rep didn't say I had to make the request via fax. Instead, the rep told me it wasn't possible for an owner to password protect their account. I told her that I was quite certain some owners have been able to do this.

She told me that Owner Services already require specific information from owners before access is allowed to any account.

I told her that since I rent my units frequently, I was concerned that a renter would have ALL of the "TOP SECRET" info (my telephone number, my name, my address and my email) requested by Owner Services when someone calls.

Her response was, "Oh." :wall:

Based on my recent interactions with owner services, I think Starwood should replace the music it plays while people are on hold to this: http://www.barbneal.com/wav/tvthemes/3stooges.wav.

In my opinion, this would be much more appropriate!

As I recall, David (DavidnRobin) said that there is no designated spot for a password in your account info., but if you have a free line in your address, they can use it for your password. (The address template apparently has space for 3 lines and most people only use two lines.)

Wow.. Jerry... I'm really disappointed in hearing this info. I haven't called today as I had to work. Anyways, I know my renters don't have my e-mail as I set up a separate one for rentals. But I've never been asked to verify my e-mail. Were you able to take it further by talking to a supervisor??
