I have not Googled to see if there is a preferred way to store soy or Worcestershire sauce, but I caught an episode of Rachael Ray's new 30 Minute Meals over the weekend and she pulled both out of the refrigerator. Mine live in the spice cabinet above the stove, as does the Tabasco. RR had already pulled dry spices out of the pantry, so presumably there is a reason she keeps the liquids in the fridge. We use so little of these condiments that ours are likely 8 or more years old, except for the soy sauce which I use 1/4 cup of in a Weight Watchers chicken recipe -- it's probably 3 years old.

No.

Mine is in a cabinet.

We keep them in the cabinet.

Never have for either one.

I refrigerate both. Keep in mind I'm "young" compared to a lot of TUGgers.

I refrigerate worcestershire, but not soy sauce. Soy sauce is already fermented. I'm not sure about the other, but use it so little.

Actually I do frigerate sweet soy sauce cause it has other ingredients than just fermented soy beans.

Just the opposite in our household. We have never refrigerated Worcestershire sauce, but have always put the soy sauce in the fridge! Have no particular reason why we do it that way, but it has always been so.

No - it stays on the shelf until it is gone. Ours are pretty old too. I can only think of a few things that either are used for.

Depends. If the bottle says refrigerate, I do; if not, I don't. Currently, soy sauce is in the cabinet but the worcestershire sauce is in the fridge. Don't know if it makes a difference, but it's organic.

They're easier to find when kept in the fridge next to:
A1 sauce, cocktail sauce, BBQ sauce, hot sauce, etc.

Soy Sauce
:
  • Soy sauce will usually keep well for around six months when stored at room temperature; to keep it fresher longer, store the soy sauce in the refrigerator.
  • Soy sauce that has been continuously refrigerated will generally stay at best quality for about 2 years.
  • Is opened soy sauce safe to use after the "expiration date"? Yes, provided it has been stored properly, the bottle is undamaged, and there are no signs of spoilage.
Worcestershire Sauce:
  • Worcestershire sauce that has been continuously refrigerated will generally stay at best quality for about 3 years.

Room temperature storage is not mentioned (apparently disfavored).

Nope - both are in my cabinet, right along side the Ketchup! That doesn't go in the fridge either at my house.

And mustard.

We always have the Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce in the refrigerator. Never really thought about it much, it’s just always been that way.

Ketchup, mustard, cocktail sauce, barbecue sauce -- all in our refrigerator. Laura Scudder's natural peanut butter says refrigerate after opening, but I don't and it probably takes me a year to go through it. No way I could wait for peanut butter to come to spreadable consistency. That's why we've gone to butter with canola oil in tubs -- pretty instantly spreadable. Still keep sticks for baking, for scrambling eggs, and for putting on the table for company.

Regarding soy sauce, yes, refrigerate soy sauce if possible. I use soy sauce almost daily and it will stay tastier when kept in the fridge after opened. That being said, I have kept soy sauce in the boat for weeks and it still tasted fine on tuna.

I guess it might not really matter. :ponder:

Both in the fridge. I have weird food issues and if things "might" be bad I can't get past it, so I refrigerate a lot of things. My husband has threatened to white out the "best by" dates on things so that I will eat things that are perfectly good. He eats anything and everything.

In writing this, I realize that I don't have the germ issues that others have - I don't worry about the dishes in a timeshare for example, and I have no issues picking a bug out of my coffee when camping, but I am so freaked out by spoiled food that it keeps me from eating leftovers, lol.

This is also our house. We don’t frequently use soy sauce. However, I’ll go through two of the large bottles of Lea & Perrins from Sam’s Club every eight months. Yes, that’s a lot of Worcestershire sauce but I make a mean Bloody Mary!

Yes.
Most of you shock me that you don't. Then again, I never thought about it. "We've always done it this way."
