Do you lose your view?

Hi there,

I was just thinking about converting a 2BR lockoff at WKORV to a 2 week vacation of 1BRsx2. Would you have to lose your view for one of the weeks if you do this?

Let's say you own an OV 2BR lockoff there. If you want to split it into 2 consecutive weeks, is there any way to do this and guarantee your OV to be there for both weeks. Or are you forced to do one through SOs (or II even) and "trade back in", in which case you would not be guaranteed your view for week 2.

Or do I just have it all wrong? Just curious. Katherine

The 2BR LO in Hawaii (I assume that's what you want since you mention OV) is made up of a 1BR and a studio. As long as you are within the 12-8 month owner period you can split up the units - 1 week in a studio and one week in a 1BR - without losing your view. I've done this many times.

Once you are within 8 months of check-in, your view is no longer guaranteed, but they do try to give it to you, if possible. I once reserved on a Wednesday in January for arrival the following Sunday and even got upgraded from an OV studio to an OV 1BR. This has nothing to do with the split. It's just the way SVN works.

If you are exchanging from one property to another (say WKORV to WKORV-N or WPORV), then your view doesn't transfer with the exchange. I would go WKORV -> WKORV-N but not the other way around because I wouldn't want to risk getting a WKORV IV. WKORV-N IV would be OK for me, though.

And if you reserve your 2 bdrm LO within the home resort priority period and later decide to split your lockoff, you keep your timestamp for the week that you are keeping. You'd lose the timestamp for the week that you added. That's why it's best to make the 2 week split reservation initially.

If you split your lock-off you would have a studio and a 1 bdm. - not 2 one bdms. Is that what you mean?

One more note - when you call and make the reservation for the first week, they can take the reservation for the second week at the same time, and they will upload it into the system 1 week later. However, you may have to talk to a supervisor to get it done, since a newer staff member may not know about it.

When I do this I reserve the studio for week 1, and the one bdm. for the week 2, and make both reservations when I call at 12 mos.

When you split your lock-off during the owner's priority period you retain all the owner's rights because you are still reserving what you own.

To stay in a 1 bdm. for 2 weeks would require a Staroption exchange the 2nd week, because the Staroption value of a 2 bdm. lock-off is 148,000 and you wouldn't have enough for 2 weeks in a 2 bdm. (162,000.) You would either have to come up with more Staroptions, or spend less than a full week in a 1 bdm., the second week.

I think Tugger Stevens357 did this and the allowed him to reserve both weeks at the same time??? As I recall he reserved a full week + a partial week in a 1 bdm.

If I am looking at the chart right, with a Sunday check-in/out, you could add 4 more nights the 2nd week (Sun. - Wed. nights.) So a two bedroom lock-off will get you 11 days in a 1 bdm.

Our family stayed 13 nights at WKORV July 03-16, 2005 (Sun-Fri), in a one-bedroom premium. The reservation, which was made during the Network Float period (8 months prior to travel, gobbled up 146,150 StarOptions. I ended up wasting the remaining 1,850 StarOptions that year....but it was sure worth it.

I'd gladly sacrifice the extra night again to spend nights 8-13 in a one bedroom premium vs. a studio villa.

Hi Jerry - I should remember this, but are you a WKORV owner, or was this completely a Staroption exchange?

Did you stay in the same unit for the whole time?

What view did you get?

I will have to take another look at the Staroption chart - you got more nights out of it that I thought you could, based on the Staroptions.

Thanks for your input!

You can get 13 nights by reserving Sun-Friday; in this manner you use only 3 of the more expensive Friday/Saturday staroptions.

Ok, one more question. If you don't own at WKORV, and you trade in someway (II or SOs), you are not guaranteed the view, right? Soooo only owners at WKORV during 12-8 months are guaranteed the OV or OF view.

Correct??

Yes - that is basic to the 4 types of uses for SVO VOIs
1) Home Resort
2) SVN Exchange
3) II
4) SO-SP conversion
