Do MVC Resorts Discount Rooms Within 60 Days?

Attended a presentation last month and was told that “most” resorts will discount the points necessary to book a room/unit once you are within 60 days of the trip, so waiting and booking close- in (on low season/low interest mths and locations that would not be booked out) is a “great way to maximize points.” Is this true? The only info I have been able to find about discounted weeks/nights within that 60 day window is 30% off for chairman level owners.

There is a points discount of 25% at 30 days out for Executive and 30% at 60 days out for Presidential and Chairman's Club. In addition the destination escapes can be larger discounts still. For most properties and during higher demand times they will not be available.

The DC status-based 25%/30% discount is guaranteed for any intervals that are available to be booked within the 30/60-days reservation windows. They're based only on availability, applicable at all resorts, and are automatically applied during the phone/website reservation process. Below is from page 3 of the TUG DC Points FAQ:

Discounts for last-minute DC Points stays are also based on status:

• Presidential and Chairman's Club Members - 30% discount 60-days prior to arrival

*There are no codes for these discounts. If the desired interval is available then the system will automatically recognize a DC Member's status and apply the discount, which will be reflected in the reservation process (whether online or through a call to a VOA.)<<

I believe we have done over a dozen trips using the 30% discount, and counting. It's based on ownership level as SueDonJ pointed out. Really a great feature.

Do those at the base "Owner Level" (less than 4,000 points) have access to Destination Escapes? If so, what's the % discount and booking window? Or are Destination Escapes only available at the Executive or higher level?

Destination Escapes are available to everyone. The pricing is fixed based on unit size and length of stay and the inventory is pre-determined. There are different discounts for Executive and above 25-30% which works for all available inventory but they can't get that discount on top of Destinations Escapes.
