I have friends who would like to join us on a weekend trip in a couple of weeks. I f I book a second room for my friends under my name, will they get the same upgrade and perks as me and my DW? Being a fairly busy weekend, I fully expect the concierge lounge to be open.

I am using a BOGO while the second room would be an MEB.

I know I got two different room types when I had my family with me. My room was on a upper floor. Not sure if they check when you get into the lounge area how many people you have in your party. Usually they do write down your room number and the number of people. It might depend on the hotel. Let me know what happens, I am curious.

The policy is no, your second room won't be upgraded or given access to CL. Of course this depends on the property, some might be willing to extend upgrades. However, my experience has been the same as IuLiKa, we were given rooms on different floors and only our room had CL privileges.

Last summer I needed an extra room for family at a wedding in Colorado. I booked 2 different reservations, one in my name & one in DH's. We are both gold elite, so both rooms got benefits.

Marriott only provides benefits to the room you will personally occupy.

Don't count on it. Most of the Marriotts I stay at (about 10 different ones per year) do not open the CL on weekends, no matter how busy the hotel is. However, as an alternative, you should generally get free breakfast for two on Saturday and Sunday in the hotel dining room.

I stayed in the Augusta and Atlanta Perimeter Center Marriotts within the past two months - each time with two rooms in my name. All four people got CL privileges during the week and full breakfasts on the weekend based on my status.

That's just what I was hoping to hear. This would be a college "event" weekend. In early October, I was at the same Renaissance for another college event and they did have the CL open that weekend. My DW and I used it several times a day. Either way, the breakfast for four would be nice.

Yes, I have been at Renaissance properties (most recently in Denver) where the CL was open on weekends, but rarely so for a Marriott.

I have noticed that many of the Marriott hotels that previously provides platinum members breakfast vouchers on weekends when the CL was closed are no longer offering these vouchers. The KC Airport and Overland Park marriott hotels do not offer breakfast vouchers. I can't recall the last time I stayed at a Marriott or Renaissance that had the CL open on a weekend. For this reason, I now stay in Springhill Suites or Residence Inns for weekend trips.

If the CL level is closed, is it customary for a Renaissance to offer breakfast vouchers for weekend stays?

I recently stayed at a Renaissance property that didn't have a CL and was given breakfast vouchers for the hotel restaurant. However, it was a mid-week stay, not a weekend so I guess that doesn't really answer your question.

After calling the hotel and their telling me that the CL would be closed and that they did not give breakfast vouchers on the weekend, my friend decided to just put the room in his own name.

The first morning I got and went to the front desk and simply asked for a voucher. They looked me up on the computer and then handed me a voucher good for two. Oh well, at least ours was free. :)

On to another issue.
For some reason I have received 3 nights credited towards my elite staus for my last two - 2 night stays. Each of those stays has been at a Renaissance hotel using a a buy one night get one free promotion. So essentially I paid for one night and got credit in my account for three - TWICE.

Could it possibly be a glitch in the system?

Terry-
I've had this happen a couple of times. When you look at your statement it will show something like this:
11/20 night stayed
11/21 night stayed
11/22 night credited

Basically they charge you for 2 nights and then credit you a night when you check out on the last morning of your stay. So when the MR office credits your account, they take a quick glance and think you stayed for 3 nights.

At other times I get a statement that shows something like this:

11/20 night stayed $99
11/21 night stayed $ 0

When they bill you like this you'll get 2 nights credit.

It all depends on how the hotel handles the credit for the free night, sometimes if you don't look closely at the bill it looks like you stayed for 3 nights, not 2 nights.

This is my guess of what is happening. I'm just speculating, but it matches up with my experience on the buy one, get one free promos.

What is the concierge lounge?

Many of the nicer hotels have a Club/Concierge Level which has a lounge on it that serves food and beverages several times throughout the day. The food served is typically a small buffet for breakfast and finger foods the rest of the day.

The Concierge Level is typically only accessible with room card keys assigned to that floor, but sometimes elite members staying on other floors will also have access. Most hotels only offer this service during weekdays as a courtesy aimed at business travelers.

Here is a CL description on Marriott's website taken from a JW Marriott Resort.
