So Key Largo is not Key West but I have an ongoing search active for Key West and RCI called me about reserving a one bedroom with a partial Kitchen at the Anchorage Resort and Yacht Club in Key Largo. It's October 2 check in and 9 October check out for $186. 25000 points. No resort fee, no cleaning fee. Opinions please. Should I go for it or hold out for the real Key West possibility?

Key West is nearly 100 miles away from Key Largo, and more than a two hour drive. How close to Key West are you thinking you'd want to be?

Dave

How wide open datewise is your key west search in RCI? $186 is an odd exchange amount for a week. You could always take the key largo and then add 1-3 nights of hotel in Key west to get that part too.

In one way I don't really care because I would probably do the same thing in either place. Eat, drink, walk around, buy stuff, relax. I remember Key West as being fun. But all that being said, in another way I'm sort of thinking is the difference between the two spots so great that I pass on the $186 place just to have a chance at Key West? The more I type, the more I think I may be the kind of guy that likes the deal more than what might be.

That is a great alternative if it could work out.

I think I might take the deal and just see what comes up if I keep my Key West search active.

We stayed at Key Largo, it’s not anything like Key West. I would hold out for Key West.

It's your call, but personally I would hold out for Key West, although it could take quite a while for a KW exchange to become available through RCI. If I recall correctly, The Galleon was (and very likely still is) literally the only RCI-affiliated timeshare in Key West.

Fwiw, we owned and used a Key Largo winter week timeshare for a few years (Florida Bay Club, at MM 103, purchased resale at very low cost). With the noteworthy exceptions of John Pennekamp State Park for boat trips out to snorkel the reef and The Fish House for its' food, we frankly found Key Largo to just be a real snooze . We sold that ownership for peanuts after just a very few years and never looked back. Since then, we've rented Key West timeshare weeks from Hyatt owners several times and we will definitely do so again in the future (God willing). Key West vs. Key Largo? No contest, in my personal opinion.

I would also note that early October is within the prime time of hurricane season anywhere in the Keys. Maybe it's just the New England Yankee in me, but the only time I want to be in Florida is during the winter months when there is ice, snow and bitter cold back home --- while the only ice we see during our few weeks in Florida is floating in our cocktails. :)

I don’t know where you could walk around in key largo. It is water activities or nothing

I think we're going to take it because we can always use it as a stepping off point for Key West, Marathon Key, and Miami day trips or get a hotel. It's sort of too cheap to not use as a resource for access to the area.

The one $186 is just the standard exchange fee with some kind of promotional discount RCI gave me when I booked.

What did the 2500 points cost you? The cost is that plus the 189
